F1 - how was it for you watching from the Sky?

If anyone thinks the BBC picture quality is as good as HD Sky all I can say is buy a decent tele.
I've had HD on a plasma ever since they were introduced and the current Sky F1 coverage is the best picture quality I have ever seen.

I wasn't overly impressed with the camera work during the race on more than one occasion. Viewing in the pits for an age when track action was hotting up and following the also rans 2 laps from the end did slightly boil my píss.
Other than that I enjoyed the race and ALL the build up.

Grabbed a SD torrent of the race from Sky. Seems pretty good coverage. Shame about Martin But the other chap wasn't too annoying and of course DC was still there.
Same place did have the HD version of the race, but it was a tiny bit big (30GB) hence why I opted for the SD version.
I've just got HD here and one of the channels covers F1, so when there is a race at a normal hour I will have a switch between the SD and HD version of the channel and see what the difference is like. Given that the baseball and basketball coverage seems to be super sharp, I'm expecting good things.

The picture quality was a bit better, not massively so. And yes, I do have a Panasonic plasma.
I actually preferred crofty to coulthard in the commentry box. He works well with Brundle. But the rest of the new sky F1 reporters (the two females in particular) are so tedious that I am forever rolling my eyes when they start talking. Also, Damon Hill has zero personality whatsoever. They need to employ the likes of Eddie Irvine!
Also, I wasn't impressed with Martin Brundles Ferrari F1 car drive. They built it up over the entire weekend and it lasted what, 3 minutes? In a 90 minute preview show? Even Brundle said afterwards that he has 40 laps in the thing!
Overall 6.5 out of 10. Room to improve. It's ok having an entire channel for F1, but of lot of the build up was just boring to be honest.

I enjoyed the 2 hr highlight show on the BBC, showed all the laps and didnt feel i missed out of whizzy walkabouts as all i care about is the race and the result.

Pontificating
I liked Croft in the commentary box, it was a bit odd to start with as I wasn't sure who was the organ grinder and who was the monkey, seems Brundle has gone back to being the monkey.
I miss Jake, DC and EJ, they were an excellent team and had real chemistry.
Picture and sound were better
But overall there isn't much in it between the Beeb and Sky for my liking, you could get pretty much everything from on the beeb via the red button.
Hill was a bit dull as was the other chap (name forgotten) absolutely no interest in Georgie Thompson, nothing but cheap eye candy and for me she's always been a bit of a sycophant around the big names in sport and it all looks very false.
I'll always watch on the beeb when they're showing the live races.

Hmmm I didnt bother turning my amp on so missed out on the better sound but I definetly thought the HD picture was crisper than it was on the beeb last year.
I like the fact they split the programs up as well so if you want to just watch the race you play that rather than having to fast forward to the start (I never use user defined after misjudging once and ending up on lap 2 lol).
Georgie and the pleb on the F1 Pad were a bit boring. She should stick to what she is best at - A league of their own having the **** ripped out of her for her height (or lack of)

Yes. One local director dictates what is/isn't shown at every race. Bernie also controls where the fixed cameras are placed for the red button stuff too.
