Its an older car nowadays but its the gearbox would be my biggest worry, it feels, well crap tbh. There is a long throw between gears, gear changing is not as precise as it should be, no wines or crunches I just think its not a well designed box. My previous 98 Turbo2000 felt much better, more precise and a better "feel". I've not had it dynoed but I would expect anything between 270 to 280 atm I'm happy with that.

From my own limited knowledge you can but you need the matching diff too. How is the car running atm, did you get it remapped?

No mate I haven't. You can't map the standard ecu so that's as far as iv gone atm. I'm trying to find out if you can map a z4 ecu and what is so good about them?

Nope the ECU is not mapable on the early cars from what I believe. Apexi pfc is the cheapest and most common way to map.

I had a Z4 ECU in my old V-Limited and it required a piggy back chip. At the time, they couldn't be remapped live so the ECU had to be adjusted, go out for a blat, readjusted and so on. It made a huge difference in power and fuel economy - Before I had it mapped, I used to use 1 1/2 tanks of fuel to get to and from Santa Pod, after I had it done - 3/4 tank and I didn't hang around!!
Done by Pat herborn, long before I knew about Dynamix or Jolly Green Monster

Been looking into getting a remap on my V2 aswell. Apexi PFC or ESL daughterboard are the best choices having spoken to Simon and Duncan. A V1/2 PFC went for £250 on ebay last weekend then £300 to map it seems pretty good value.

My budget is £0 lol I aways said it would b an eBay car searching for deals and 2nd hand parts. Tbh I never intended on going as far as I have. I reckon I have spent about £1500 so far, but I know I have a lot for my money. Knowing its producing 285bhp, I would like to break 300bhp, which I reckon should be achieved with out going to mad or much further.

Go for a ESL, I think for the cost you couldn't get a better upgrade from where you are. 295 quid isnt much for a fully mappable ecu!

To be fair Paul I think you have done damn well given your budget and the fact you are getting those figures before you've even had it mapped!
