I drive till the light comes on, then fill it up ... wont change my routine for any scare mongering!

Worst thing is, this thread is full of people justifying theyre panic buying .... stop it! your in the wrong you complete bell ends!

Anyone who changes theyre fuel buying habit because a halfwit politician says so is causing this ******* ridiculous situation however you want to spin it to justify your actions!

Andy97 ..... prime example ....

"Just spent £300 on fuel last night, not because I was panic buying, I just needed to"

how the fudge do you spend £300 on fuel????? 20 jerry cans? .... i apologise if thats a normal thing for you to do or have a 200l fuel tank! if its not a normal thing and your just scared then im pointing at you and laughing out loud!

'Cause the Scoob has bad mpg, I always brim up from near empty (or 1/4 tank or less anyway).

That way, I save cash by not having to make any more trips to the garage than is absolutely necessary - like I would if I only put in a 1/3 or 1/2 a tank, say. The reason this works for me is that, unfortunately, my nearest local Shell isn't en route for any of my commuting/regular trips i.e. I have to go out my way to get it, thus adding to my monthly mileage. And that extra mileage is about 9 miles round trip.

Got to the pumps on fumes this morning. The queue was no worse than normal.

What annoyed me was a HGV driver decided to use the pay at pump, then spend 10 minutes in the shop.

I pulled out of the station with half a tank of diesel.

Not noticed any problems in North East yet, but prices have crept up, as expected. Start a panic and up goes the price. Bet the Government is laughing all the way to the bank.

Well I filled up both cars and my van yesterday through panic, £270.00. Both cars are normally run down low and then filled to the top each week and the van usually gets £50.00/week but got filled this time. Thing is we use them for our business and by the look of the forecourts yesterday it won't be long before they're going to be empty. So call it whatever you want, fact is I'm sure the pumps are going to be empty in a few days and if we run out we can't work, simples. Maybe it's ok for you Pimmo! You perhaps don't drive to work or maybe you can chuck a sickie if you can't get, I don't know. What I do know is we need fuel if we're going to earn our living.

I went to the local Shell garage last night and people were queuing so I thought sod it go today.....******* garage is now shut ffs! Went a couple of miles to the next Shell, queued for 20 mins and they don`t even sell V Power petrol, only the V Power diesel . Went another few miles to a BP for some Ultimate...no Ultimate pumps . Result, no fuel to go to work tonight. Ive had to ask a mate for a lift...******* ridiculous. This situation is actually making me contemplate getting the car remapped for `normal` fuel.

shopped today and put fuel in the car (as per usual) big queues at Tesco pumps and running out fast due to panic buying exacerbating the (non existent) problem!

But you are driving with more fuel, and hence more weight, in the car all the time, thus reducing you mpg

I just so happened to fill my car up to the brim last Friday, usually I only put £50 in at a time but I thought 'sod it, ill just fill it'

I didn't even know about this whole incident until yesterday when people started talking about it and then the news this morning. Its just madness!
The strike isn't even scheduled to start yet!
They should still be restocking supplies shouldn't they??
But I'll bet the tankers can't even get to the garage forecourt for the endless mass of panic-buyers! Ironic or what!

It just so happens that I havnt used my car this week, but the downside is I'll probably need to refuel just as the strike properly kicks in so I timed that well...not

Needless to say, I'll be darned if I'm going to sit in a queue for 30+ minutes

Always before a holiday as well! I was supposed to be driving up north to see my folks over the Easter weekend. I haven't seen them since Christmas but as its a 500 mile all-round trip I may have to give it a miss.

I use a tank a month at the moment (yup: a month) and usually fill up when I get paid, just out of habit more than anything. I just got paid and can't get to a pump to do my normal bleeding fill.

Good job I cycle commute the 12 miles each way to work or I'd be buggered.

The queue was more than normal at that garage but not any worse than I've seen in the summer when the emmetts are about ....

I'd say one of the reasons that people are filling up is that their kids break up for Easter tomorrow and they've arranged trips out/going away/etc so don't want to disappoint them.

Dave
Me too. I always fill up because a tank lasts me a week of commuting so no point doing otherwise even though the advice is 3/4 to put less weight in the car (no idea how much difference that would make)

However, most people put in £20 or £30 not the £60 or £70 they are putting in at the moment.

The Easter thing shows what idiots they are, you've underlined the point. No strike for at least a week so they'll be out if there is on and even then, isn't it only for one flipping day???

As I said, everyone in those queues will deny they are panic buying but they are. Simple.

And just had to queue for 10 mins to get my much needed 6 litres! For the scoot, 96 mpg and I had to use supreme from esso , only station I could get anywhere near, my usual 3 shells were closed. Crazy out there.

Why would they deny they are panic buying? I went and filled up yesterday and I reckon everybody would quite happily admit they were. Anyway, my Mrs has just come in and said Tesco's are out of fuel as well as a lot of the other local garages. Glad I panicked yesterday or we wouldn't be able to work tomorrow. Maybe a lot of you guys don't actually need your vehicles to get to work or earn a living.

Wife's car takes 100 litres of diesel. Mine takes 135litres of petrol thus £300 easily spent. I had 50 miles left on the gauge. I didn't rush out I was mentioning that everyone else was. I was doing my usual fill ups.

HA! I knew some smartarse would mention the extra weight.

But the extra weight in fuel is the lesser evil of the two i.e. has a lesser effect on the ultimate cost. Only really has an effect when you're trying to heavily accelerate the extra mass of it, anyway. Probably.

Most of my driving is gentle commuting, driving 'normally', not chasing the throttle. And when I do hoon? Well, then I don't care!

Even if it happens to work out equal in costs, it's much less of a ballache to fill-up as fewer times as possible. I really hate getting pet - and all the other cars/***** around me on the forecourt, etc. LOL. All the rest of the general public suck.

Just been into the local tesco to fuel up.....

brimmed the tank....£5 lol

whats even funnier is the women behind the counter telling the people as they pay, that they have ample stocks of fuel, and the drivers who supply them are not part of this union thing lol

Mart

might wander down later and pop £50 in the diesel

This is the future, we'll all need to live close to work ...

I predict that fuel will get more expensive over time so best think about moving now!

This situation just highlights the level of intelligence in this country, both politically and in the members of the public. Panic buying fuel for an unannounced tanker driver strike? Amazing.
My cars a smidge over a 1/4 tank, and it'll only go to shell when the light comes on.

We've all of a sudden turned into a bunch of retarded lemming/headless chicken-like hybrids! It's kwaaazy. lol

What the hell's happened to the so called, calm, rational-of-thought, 'intelligent' UK populous?!!!

My diesel Leon is 3/4 full and that will last weeks as I cycle my daily commute 40 mile round trip. Wife's focus is also full so no panic buying here.
I run my car till the light comes on then refill and it onl gets used at weekends.

It's quite rational in some ways though. If you suspect everyone else is irrational enough to panic and drain the pumps dry leaving you with no fuel, the rational think to do is to fill your tank before them!

Filled up yesterday as well below quarter of a tank, always try to keep it above a quarter to avoid fuel surge, (I like the twisties!)
I was not panic buying, I was ANNOYED buying! ****ing retards in there with jerry cans, I would love to know how much extra revenue the government took in fuel duty yesterday... but I would suspect several billion,. funny its just before the end of the tax year ???

I use the sc00bs for work and commute about 380miles a week through country lanes so 1.5 tanks or so. yesterday was fill up day on the way home... :| just my luck 2x shell stations empty ended up queuing in Tesco's for 99 and home more than a hour later than normal.. If I had not, I wouldn't have been at work today.

Normally I would put 40 quid in at a time and fill up 3 or even 4 times a week, (I just like the sound of "only an extra 20kg") .. but because others are "panic" buying this forces you to fill up knowing the tards will empty forecourts everywhere you will not be able to for 1 or 2 days because of the stupid panic media lead mentalness!!

Yeah, but the strike (if it actually happens!!), er, hasn't yet happened! And even then, they're supposed to give a 7-day notice period. Otherwise, of course, your reasoning is correct.

But in the meantime all this, thus far, unfounded panic buying has done is cajoled the garages to drive up prices due to the overwhelming 'demand' (and that's on top! of the ever increasing duty that the govt. insist in keep slapping on!).

And you can bet your bottom dollar that the forecourts will simply keep their elevated prices due to this madness (as they love to do); as by then the apathetic public will just 'accept' it and just think, "Ah well...". As per is the norm.

Something's gotta give here - there's gotta be a genuine tipping point soon! Poll tax-style riots over fuel anyone?!!!

But then how many times has that been said?!

Mad Max was its very own 'George Orwell's 1984' moment.

Loads of garages around us with no fuel at all, many more with petrol only.

I usually go through a full tank every week so hard not to panic buy !

I'm 'lucky' in that a full tank lasts about 2-3 weeks.

I'm on 3/8ths full at the mo, so won't need to fill up before the w/e (staying in, sad lonely f***er-style, as per normal lol).
