Impreza ownership - when is enough enough?

Been in the "had enough" sitiuation to many times over the last 9 years Ive owned Impreza's, And like always I move to another brand(Evos, Audi, Focus RS etc etc) and I always end up going back to a Impreza, So I would never say I wont have another Impreza again, as you only realise how good they are until you dont own one and you hear or see one come past you or see pictures on here in the members gallery.
Maybe you need to try another brand to make you appreciate what you had, But a car thats cheaper to run, tax, insure etc might seem a good idea now but you will soon become bored if it and I'll give you max of 2 months before your on Pistonheads and on here in the for sale section looking for Impreza's for sale.

big choice i think, i consider breaking mine at least once every 2weeks as i live a nice easy 2min walk from work and start to think what is the point in owning a 400bhp car, then i jump in at the weekend go for a play and thats it i fall in love again after 5mins lol. My car has caused me a lot of headaches this past year but what the hell its why we own them isn't it to drive them and to enjoy them. Its your decission if you feel you make the wrong one just buy another impreza, i see this many times over cutomer says will you break my car, yes no probs 1month later when car is crippled they start to want it back but it's too late then i see so many people coming back with another
Anyways what would you spend that money on it would probably never be seen

I kind of went the other way, in that i couldn't justify the cost of having a car sat in the garage that was a toy and wanted my subaru thrills everyday, so i bought a blob wagon which is a damm sight more use to me than a 2 door 15yr old type r on which something breaks almost every time i give it beans.
I love being in a subaru and the bloody things just do it for me on so many levels and i think that they are actually extreemly cheap to run for what they can do, they are within the classification of a super car, and i cant think of a super car that can be had and run for anything like what mine costs.
I have tried life without one and it's just not for me, and as i have said on previous threads of this nature, whats the point in working and living for that matter if you can't have at least one indulgence in life.
Yeah ok so it doesn't make sound financial sense, but some things can't be measured in pounds, shillings and pence.

so far on seperate occasions in different towns in the last 6 mths ive had
My bonnet scoop stolen
car body panels damaged
3 of 4 tyres slashed on the side walls
Now, i put it down to jealousy (or some kunt who ive pissed off following me around LOL)

I can't think of any car as capable as the impreza which is cheaper to run, they are no worse on fuel than a lot of the 4x4 caravan club vehicles, in fact I can't think of another car I would buy that would be a massive improvement in running costs, I enjoy my cars and just don't get a buzz out of small cheap to run cars so my options are limited. Since changing from ford to Subaru I have no regrets. In fact since having my my05 jdm I can't think of any car I could change it for within my budget. A car is my hobby not just a to b and I don't think my hobby is any more expensive than joining a golf club and hitting a ball every week. So no I don't see me changing for quite a while.

thought id put my 2 pennies worth in . last year i wrote of my pride and joy so while i sorted out finances to get something else i borrowed a car off my rents. 1.6 Nissan almera Sr (not quite sure what the hell Sr stood for)i hadnt had an" economical" since i was 20. and this made me realise why. it was horrible. after 2months i was desperate to own another subaru and this is where i am now. the most frustrating issue along with prob 80 %of people on here is fuel costs everything else is no different to another run of the mill car cheap to fix and maintain etc etc.

I own two cars myself, an 95 WRX and a 99 Puma.
Now I can understand both points of view but everything is relative, if you can afford to buy a 8k hawk then really you should be aware of the running costs. Myself I couldnt justify an 8 to 10k motor just sitting on my drive gathering dust. Thats why I have stuck to an older Impreza, I could afford a hawk but much prefer having money in the bank and still a nice motor outside.
Also a runabout doesnt have to be a heap, cars such as the Puma 1.7, Feista Zetec-s, Saxo VTR/VTS are cheap to run, cheap to insure and fantastic fun in their own right.

Mine has cost me a fortune over the last 5 years. I mean thousands over it's value, but there is only one car I would have over my 450BHP 96 STI eventhough the engine is in bits at the moment. A 600 BHP STI would be a great replacement. Iv driven lots of fast cars,Porsches M3s etc & nothing compares to a Scooby.

Any diesel driven hard to achieve reasonable 0-62 times (around 8.5 secs for Seat Leon FR) will not give you 500 miles per tank. The idea that a diesel can give worthwhile performance figures at the quoted mpg figures is pure fantasy.

I use my wrxd as an everyday car and get 500 to the tank 48mpg
Looks great ok on straights but for my treat the Greenwagon comes out 25mpg on my day off
Yes it's madness to have both subarus but I don't drink or smoke or gamble and don't live an expensive lifestyle etc
My Greenwagon will need the arches done soon , the wheels refurbished and a new clutch so I will spend more then the cars worth but hey I get my discount on my plot in the graveyard and my headstone so I might as well enjoy myself
I've seen so many people in the last 12 years sell their Subaru and regret it
You can't beat the sound of the flat four and the smiles are worth every penny

I save about £2500 a year in fuel since I've not used it daily. Have I noticed? Have I f**k!
It always seems the way to me, you do stuff for a cheaper life and you don't notice it.
If you enjoy your Impreza you'll be seriously grim if you swap it for some vag boredom!

I used to be going to shows or out and about most weekends few years ago, but for one reason or another i dont get out in it, dont tend to go to shows as much and generaly dont drive it much, but i wont get rid.
I have thought a few times do i get rid, get ride of my 528 and just by an M5 to use everyday, then i drive the scoob again and think, nope lol
Still love it as much as the day I got it, i may tone the exhaust down a bit now im getting older,,,, lol, but still planning more tweeks. If i do ever get rid of this one i will replace it with another

I sold my blob eye a few months back as the missis hated how much it cost me each month on fuel, insurance etc etc. I've now owned 80 cars and the only car I keep going back to Is a scooby so I compromised with the wife she wanted a family car I wanted a scoob so I got a wagon lol and I love it. Fast and fun yet practical for the kids : ) yea it's crap on fuel but hay ho that's life : )))

I havnt had mine a year yet so still very new to scooby scene and I wouldnt be without her already .
Before buying i did my homework and made sure i got the car that was suitable for what i wanted and driving style and a standard PPP'd Bug STI Prodrive style fitted my requirements. around safe 300bhp so no modding engine required, Prodrive style so no external modding required and an STI so no extra expenditure on making it into an STI.
I think I have saved on buying the car I wanted strait out . I know I was lucky to be in that position at that time to do that and a lot are not.
shes not been without the odd issue which im working on sorting soon (suspension and wheels)but mainly because im finnerky about them.
I use her every day for work general use and on weekends shes my toy

We live by our means. If we didn't have Imprezas the extra few quid in our pockets would still get spent on stuff that would rot our teeth or our minds.
We are not talking huge savings here by selling our cars. £2500 seems to be the average saving which in today's world is not alot.

wife gets about 210 miles from a full tank of tesco 99 £60 but she only does about 50 miles a week fun car great handling but not a patch on my scoob
merc 220 cdi
400 miles from a full tank of diesel £80 i only use this when i need to go over 100 miles for buisness or (attending funerals 3inch decat dont go down well at a wake) good comfy car for long journeys but if its a good route i still take the scoob
as said earlier in thread life is very short enjoy it
i dont want lots of money when im 60 i want fun now while still young......ish

I sold my RB5 back in late 2010, I was using it to commute over 40 mile a day. Bought a low mileage 306 diesel which is great for everyday, but I still keep looking at the classifieds for Type R's and P1's. I dont thing I have got the bug out of the system yet.

i drive round in a Mk2 diesel mondeo, when i get into my scoob or liner it's special, cos i don't do it everyday - i think thats where alot of people go wrong. you can have too much of a good thing and using a modified high performace car as a daily driver is asking for trouble IMO

First 3 months of ownership down.... cost in petrol.... £1,600 (work that one out!)
Sounds a lot... sounds a lot more when I tell you I work 3 miles from home. Anyway, only just realised this week how much I have spent, so, train to work tomorrow morning followed by a run home.
I will NOT be selling anytime soon, my problem is a heavy right foot, 27miles to £10 is around what I get, problem is on my way home 'traffic jammed by-pass' or 'the longer way.. over the moor'
I feel a train pass coming on!

new gearbox, driveshafts, rear diff, engine, intercooler, silicone hosed all round, brakes all round (with fronts redone in 4 pots).
and yet the old wagon is still with me
think ive spent £3-£4k on a 1995 wagon just in the last year and thats not including tax, fuel, insurance or general maintenance.
if i didn't have an impreza it would just be some other fast car anyway.
Better the devil and all that.
the only good thing to come out of this is i know every part intimately

I made a throw away comment earlier about manning up, but regardless of what what you drive these days, the cost of motoring now is disproportionate to income from any time before, so I guess its just about what you want.
I have first MOT, 30K service and annual tax this month, which for an 09 hatch is a square boot in the swingers if ever there was one - painful but budgeted. This on top of a daily commute where I do about a thousand miles a month. Would I accept selling and being taken at the lights by a Golf TDI?
