It's a parallel with the poor state of our roads. The infrastructure creeps along to a slow decline as there is never quite enough money put in each year to do complete maintenance. The creep is so slow one barely notices and those in charge pat themselves on the back for saving a bit of money. In the end though you end up with an infrastructure crisis that is impossible to fix as it would require vast amounts of money in a short space of time.

I seem to remember that one reason water was sold off was on the premis that private investment would 'flood' (pardon the pun) into the sector and improve the service. I guess that promise just evaporated?

You lot get a petition together to allow the Swiss Household exemption from the hosepipe ban
That seems like a fair swap to me

Can you use your hosepipe to fill up a bucket and wash your car with that? I just want to be sure, so I don't get caught by the hosepipe police flying around in their Apache helicopters taking people out with rockets..........

Wait until the population hits 80 million in a couple of decades, then you'll see real water shortages. We may be surrounded by water, but desalination and pumping the water to where it needs to go means that turning sea water into drinking water is incredibly expensive.

How long does a 'piece' of hose pipe have to be before it is officially called a hose pipe?

It does make you laugh though - about half a mile down the road from me, a few months back there was a water leak which was identified because water was coming up through the road surface.

This went on for a week or two before they eventually came out to 'fix' it. This involved closing the road off.

A day or so after the workman had gone you could see it hadn't been fixed properly as there was continuously a puddle in the road again even on a day when there had been no rain for a number of days. It then must have been a good 3-4 weeks before they came back to fix it (still doing it now)...... and they wonder why we have a water shortage! FFS

Obviously this is just one but there are probably hundreds of cases similar to this all over the country.

Just to correct any possible misconceptions, it would not be a breach of the ban to fill a bucket from a hose, and then use that bucket of water to wash a car. So long as you're not spraying water from the hose directly onto the car, you're golden.

I find the whole hosepipe ban extremely odd. Surely an element of your bill for water is to contribute towards the upkeep of the infrastructure in the same way an element of road tax is supposed to be used to maintain the road network. So the funding which should have been invested back into the infrastructure has been diverted elsewhere, the water companies do an inadequate job, yet still turn a profit, upon which their directors are awarded their bonuses. Sounds like the path is being prepared to increase the amount you have to pay for water.

Forget hiding in a hedge,i'd just approach you and ask you outright.

Something like,Hi i really admire that body just gorgeous and oozes sex appeal The bonnet scoop just reminds of a pair of hot ***** lips, and the spoiler reminds me of a guy getting his leg over, you not so bad either. If you have an extra sponge i could give you a hand, how about i start by giving your bonnet scoop a little soaping, just gently run my sponge over its curves until its nice and wet and squeaky clean.

Amazing how many of you have focused on one aspect and missed the other.

YES hosepipes are banned.......

NO car washing is not!!!!! as long as you use a bucket

And if you hold a blue badge, you are exempt from certain restrictions

I think its bizarre, but we have been here before, nothing got fixed last time, nothing will get fixed this time.

I think a family of folk all having a separate bath would use a hell of a lot of water, why don't they ban that?

Only problem is when you have 3 cars to wash ( yes Mrs Swiss lets me wash her cars ) doing them without a pressure washer and hosepipe is a pain. Doable but a pain. 4-5 buckets just to rinse and wet with no chance of really loosening the dirt. Then a snow foam which I cant do because you need a hosepipe with mine so that is out. Two buckets with the wash. Another 5-6 buckets for a rinse, dry. Then repeat for the next two cars.

PITA.

Got a car and a van to wash this morning; no problem. Might even leave the hose running the whole time, just because I can.

They have pocketed the money over the years, for every pound they have probably put a penny back into maintaining the water etc, only my own conclusion of course. Then they have the cheek to enforce a hosepipe ban,and threaten to fine you if you get caught using one.
