I'd prefer to live in a democracy where the people who stand to be elected don't say one thing before an election and then do something completely different when elected.

Unfortunately, this will never end so I will never vote. Where is the point? Every year, under every government, taxes and the cost of living have risen. Every year they screw us more and more. Doesn't matter what colour flag they pretend to fly as they are all as bad as each other.

Only if the BNP or some other extremist party were to gain some power would I make the effort to derail them. But as that is highly unlikely I doubt i'll ever vote.

It's not a weakness. I have the strength and conviction to realise the complete folly in voting for these idiots. Maybe 30 years ago and earlier, when there was a real difference between voting either red or blue, would it have made a difference depending on which side of the fence you stood. Now, it's just a show put on to perpetuate the cycle of power.

If you want to put a bit of paper in a box that will make absolutely no difference to how your money is spent for you or how the country is run on your behalf then be my guest.

I understand you have the right not to vote, but that is a lame excuse for not voting. If you felt that strongly about candidates, you can at least spoil your ballot paper in protest, at least that would be counted unlike your apathy.

Have you ever heard the expression, "don't hate the player; hate the game"?

of course you have

Politics is the game and I hate it - the candidates have nothing to do with it as they are all as bad as each other.

As a wise man once said, "complain with your feet" - and that's what I do.

Hmm, you go away on holiday for 2 weeks every time there's an election?

Vote with your feet. By not voting you're indistinguishable from the millions that are too ******* stupid to find the polling station or even know what one is. To register your protest, spoil your paper or vote for one of the protest or single issue candidates or a Gallaway figure. I think you're probably a lazy little monkey, Seamus.

So unless you fall in that category (iirc earn £150k+ pa) the chances are that you benefit by way of state schools, nhs, police, fire brigade, social services, welfare etc etc far more than you put in.
That's only true of income tax (top 1% pay around 30%), but since income tax only makes up around a quarter of total govt revenues, that makes the true calculation for percentage of total tax take a lot harder to do (including VAT, NI, etc). Far too hard for me to even attempt in fact, this late in the evening

You're right. I know it's "vote with your feet" but the whole point is by not going you're complaining about the sytem, restaurant, shop - whatever it is. I thought "vote with your feet" might be misunderstood.

As for being lazy; the polling station is literally a 2 minute walk from my house. I still wouldn't vote if they held it in my front garden. Although, if it was held in my toilet I might wipe my **** on the paper as that would be useful!

It's a complete waste of time, money and paper in my opinion.

You're not though. You are just not turning up at all, and as JT says, you could just end up mixed into the group of people that are too lazy to bother (I'm not saying you are too lazy btw). I do see where you are coming from, but surely it would be 'better' to spoil the paper or protest vote. Through total inaction, nobody will know why you haven't turned up.

Tax evasion is illegal.

Tax avoidance is a means of mitigating ones tax liabilities, which is perfectly legal.
