Why do some people not undetstand "merge in turn"?

Round here (quite nice suburb of Manchester) the old people are seriously rude drivers, never wave when you let them out or give way in a blocked street...... makes me want to chase them down and rob their pension

If you think it's bad in a car fellas, you wanna try and merge in with a wagon
nobody will ever let a wagon out, in-fact you can see their front ends lift as they accelerate to stop you getting out too make sure they get in front.
They don't think about the fact that when they do get in front and then start braking, that the 44 ton wagon also has to try and stop.
9 times out of 10 it's an Audi or a BMW!
I'm passed caring anymore, if it won't stop it won't stop, and i know i will definitely get out in tip top condition, and it's not my wagon or insurance

Why is it that some people can't understand that if they merged in turn early, like when there were big gaps to move into, matched their speed with the other trafficrather than flying past people who have queued for 10 minutes simply because their time is more valuable than everyone elses thus making the whole problem worse then we wouldn't need threads like this?

Heading home from Plymouth on the a38 you get this all the time. No one uses the outside lane to merge. only to fly past as many cars as possible and usually use the chevrons to try and get past just a few more cars.

Im often out on the road all day and i am one of those people who will drive with in 100 metres of the lane closure before merging becuase i have better things to do than sit in a huge queue, i do often think to myself these people who are sitting in a 5 mile queue must have plenty of spare time on there hands but im always thankful that by them immediatly swerving in to lane 1 it allows me to get home hours earlier
The people that spend the entire queue an inch from the bumper in front so as not to let any queue jumpers in front.....guess what? The guy behind you will always let me in.....never has some one not let me in but i do always build up plenty of karma during the day letting out cars at junctions.

Because merge in turn does not mean merge 7 miles before the lane is closed it just means merge in turn.

If everyone slipped into the inside lane at the earliest opportunity because it was convienient and not holding everyone up then roads would be easy to negotiate, unfotunately, its w**kers like you who think your time is more important than everyone elses that makes everyones time shorter....

Theres a huges queue because of ***** like you. You dont have to merge 7 miles before but merging is like when the motorway says do 50mph, if you do it, you wont catch the traffic in front and slow everyone down. If you speed up everyones on the brakes and the chain reaction causes a backlog.... FACT.
If everyone slipped into the inside lane at the earliest opportunity because it was convienient and not holding everyone up then roads would be easy to negotiate, unfotunately, its w**kers like you who think your time is more important than everyone elses that makes everyones time shorter....

Trouble is most are bumper to bumper its the same when exiting a motorway and you have to obviously use the inside lane,all up each other *****.Just adjust speed to the vehicle in front,even if you're at crawling pace,its allows the traffic to still move along.
And the merge in turn well i think many wait in the one lane because they know if they use the spare lane up to or near the point of merging then no one will let them in or it will be a struggle,so they get into lane as soon as possible,even if it is a mile before the merge.

You are dead wrong. It's people like you who merge too early and sit there fuming about people continuing to use the empty lane that causes all the bad feeling. Think about it. When two lanes merge into one, twice as much traffic has to fit into a single lane. The only way that's going to happen is if the speed of the traffic is halved. That's why traffic slows down from 70 to 30mph or less. If both of the available lanes are used, no-one gets in front of anyone else and the two lanes merge together like a zipper. You're a very stupid man.
I used to hate the dopey ******* that cause the traffic to back up for three miles by finding themselves another dopey pr1ck to sit next to so as to block the merge in turn.
If every one drives up to the obstruction and merges in turn then the line will be 1.5 miles not 3 miles, whats not to understand
And there would not be a single line of traffic for anyone to Q jump it would just flow, as suggested above.
I'm so glad i'm out of england, and not in the british i'm in front and i'm staying there mentality.
If someone is in a rush and feels the need to overtake, what do i care, just let them go, 9 times out of 10 you will see them at the next set of lights or round about anyway, and they are more wound up than anyone, driving along ready to explode at the slightest thing, burning more fuel, stamping on their brakes.
Just leave the house 10 mins earlier if needs be, wtf.

I'm with Bubba's theory. There's a short dual carriageway near me that is about half a mile long before merging into one lane. During rush hour it often backs up to an island with traffic lights on it causing further congestion on the island as most of the second land remains unutilised. I think this is some local's code that nobody should use that lane, regardless of what is happening back at the island.. I've whitnessed much horn honking, shouting out of car window to those who dare use the spare lane to sneak in/alleviate the chaos back at the island. Hmmmmm

theres a stretch in Colchester thats always causing arguments with the merge in lanes, was in the local rag at one point asking people to calm down and not be such muppets about it...
worst thing to happen to me was on a completely empty dual carriageway stretch onroute to cornwall..
i came up to some sprinter van thing, i was doing about 70-80 and pulled out to over take, and he pulled across to block my path o.0
he then continued to swerve around the dual carriageway doing anything to stop me getting past, there was no one else about at all , i honestly thought he'd rather crash into me then let me past...
i ended up sat behind him for 5-10 minutes till my junction then turned off..
