I have never dealt with Enginetuner but its unfair to expect them to fix the problem free of charge, it may well as explained first time around be nothing to do with the ECU? if its ECu related though then yes of course it should be sorted.
The mention of upgrade to syvecs whilst a nice one is hundreds of pounds more new, you dont get many popping up second hand thats for sure. I think its near bordering on 2k for syvecs is it not?

Well, just to flesh it out a little, this is a copy of the PM's that Martyn was sent in March this year.
I suggested he call Martyn who would answer his questions:
Hi Martyn,
Alan said to give you a call but am a little busy,so just got time for a quick message.
I am wondering about the in gear boost control feature on this ecu,how is it set up?
and how does the ecu control the boost? via an adjustable actuator?
also roughly what power should this spec make,i know every engines ve is different but as a rough guide.
air filter,
simtek
740s
st/st exhaust
fmic
td05 16g.
and my afr gauge seems to be working on its own, even with the car off, should this be wired into the ecu as the car is running mafless?
thanks in advance
jamie
Response !
The ecu controls boost through the stock 3 port boost control solenoid. The in gear control is set by the mapper assuming it requires it.
In essence the ecu knows what gear you are in using a wheel spd vs rpm tacho calibration set by the mapper. If the closed loop control has been setup, that will sort it too.
I'm not sure what AFR gauge you have, but if it's a cheap narrow band version, then it's worthless to be fair.
The 16G on your car should make 320-350bhp at a rough guess using your spec.

Hi martyn,
Thanks for your reply and explanation, that clears that up a bit.
its a prosport afr gauge i have, but am sure its faulty or wired incorrectly.
as regards to power,my car is putting out 316 bhp,it was mapped by yourself in september.
iirc that is at around 1.5 bar, isnt that a bit low for all that boost?
jamie
Response
Chances are it makes 1.5 bar midrange but only holds about 1.2 bar at the top end. Perfectly acceptable figure for your spec

thanks for your comments martyn.

We offer a 24/7 service for this sort of thing. We answer the 'phone, having a full time receptionist. We answer emails and PM's from various forums. We're on Facebook.
If we were any more available, we'd be living in your flippin' lounge.
We don't charge for advice
We don't charge for road tests
I spend at least two hours a day talking to people for no reward at all.
It's my choice and I live with it.
I have no idea about the man in question other than the fact that he didn't buy the car from us, or pay us to map it. He's paid us nothing in fact, and I'm not even sure that I've ever met him.
Maybe I'm wrong, I can't remember everybody, but the PM's seem to bear that out, considering he says he's only had the car for three weeks!

Your getting this all wrong here mate. Your still using a narrowband ?
Wideband controls the fuelling better which could solve the cold start issue
I'm not upto par on afr gauges so can't comment
A 16g will roughly make them figures 320-350 is a fair assumption
My old turbo 321T is a 450 bhp turbo. Not to say I made 450 I made 441
These figures are estimates it's all depends on your setup and if you would give us your full spec I.e Newage how many miles your engines done
For what you've said 316 on a 16g is a good figure. If it wasn't you would have had it mapped again and the boost turned up ?

when did i ever say i was in your garage. i said the work was carried out there.
its completely irrelevant whether the work was carried out for me or for someone else.you still carried the work out,i have the bills.
the owner told me when we picked it up that hed had problems with it when he had it worked on.
other people have had the same problems, other people different ones as i have already stated.
what i am saying is, if it is down to the mapper, why is this happening over and over,it should be on your checklist to sort when mapping as its apparently a common fault?
quoting this and that and belittling me and quoting things you do for free dont answer or counter any of the qoutes ive posted, all you have done is sidestep everything and relied on your happy followers to back you up.
all i was ever doing is voicing my opinion,im allowed to do that, people deserve to know

it does beg the question , if the car was mapped in September last year (potentially with a different owner) why a new owner or anyone is coming back 6 months later saying its not right? why not say straight away

Personally I feel all things like this should be kept strictly on the phone or in person.
Not the place to be doing it,I also run a business so know what this might feel like and can fully understand the posting of email/PM's.

i dont care that its not running right,i would not take it to AJs even if he paid me to take it there to get it fixed.
i still have those pms too.
and my mate probably till has the pms from martynj saying your an unhappy customer and your called so and so,a completely different customer so there are more than a few then by my count, just of impreza owners.
let alone all the other marques of car, slate me as much as you want i live in plymouth and have heard endless stories about aj and read threads years ago slating them too the ground.
like i said they had a crap rep, then it got better, then crap.

So you bought the car off someone and want it fixing for free ?
The original owner/person who had the work done should've got in touch with engine tuner if they were unhappy for whatever reason.
Tim
Noticed the post above, take it somewhere else and stop complaining !

You have never set foot in my garage or met Martyn or myself.
You have never paid me any money at all.
You didn't buy anything from us, or ask us to supply anything.
You had the opportunity to ask Martyn about any issues you might have had but chose not to, in fact thanking him for his help.
You waited deliberately for someone to post, so you could put in a spoiler, in the hope of causing my business some damage.
I'd say you're just about the worst kind of troll going, on this episode.
Let me explain. Any normal person would pick the 'phone up. Because you're incapable of having a sensible conversation you resort to mud slinging.
If you'd asked, we would have dived on it, it's our daily work after all.
You should recall the old expression; You get more bees with honey.
Your second hand accusations are laughable and wildly innaccurate, not to mention libellous.
I suggest you go have some lessons in communication. I'm guessing you're young, and need a little guidance..
When you have successfully completed the correspondence course, call me and we'll arrange to take a look at your car.
An apology isn't required, as I'm big enough not to need one.
And you live in Plymouth! Pillock, all you had to do was drop in!
The worst of it is, I know something you don't, and you aren't half going to kick yourself when you find out what it is..

Yeah you've shot yourself in the foot there not even in your first post did you explain you purchased the car like that
This could be an ex owner trying to fob off a **** car on you because you've complained about it not starting and he's said yeah AJ hasn't fixed it
Your problem lyes with the original owner not AJ I'm afraid
So please tell us who you use to map your car or will use ?
Steve

TBH JME imo you have gone about this the wrong way. You should of got on the phone and spoken to ET about the issues with your car explaining the situation.
Chances are there would be a fee involved for looking at your car but i guess because you are going back to the original mapper the fee would be just for a map tweak which isnt a great deal of money
Then..................if the same issues were still there you would of had good grounds for your moan but as it is i think you've now shot your bolt fella.!

no the previous owner had all the problems with starting.
as i posted earlier it has a very searching idle but it starts, the rr printout has some irregularities.
you can call them accusations and again try to belittle me alan,it doesnt bother me in the slightest.
the fact still remains i have had
3 subaru owners in this area tell me thay have had exactly the same problems as the guy who i purchased the car off,who had a simtek fitted and mapped and problems.
and other people i know have had problems too.
the owner was not selling a lemon because he knew something was wrong with it,he was very open about it all,and the money hed spent on it etc.
what does it matter,if u have never earned a penny from me,you have still carried out said work.and it hasnt been up to par.

No offence .....but its abit OTT to slag a company off when the problem with the car is not yours but the previouse owner's, which lead to the question WHY the previouse owner not chase AJ regarding the problems with the mapping that they did ???
When I had my Motec M800 fitted on my P1...it had cold start /and erratic idle probs , took car back to the tuners and was sorted by next day , any good reputable tuner will do that FREE OF CHARGE

Who maps your car and why hasn't this car been mapped since these problems have arose ? If my car didn't start if be a bit pissed !
Chances are like Alan said you are young and expect 1000 bhp from your car when tbh the car isn't capable
Try mapping it yourself and see if you can sort these problems

because the owner had the work carried out and then had the problems.straight away
he said the starting got better after taking it back twice, but the idle was still a bit ruff, but he just dealt with it as the car had already been back twice.
i have also posted throughout this thread other incidents at least 5 id say

We constantly have a garage full of Subarus. Not every person who owns one has the wherewithall to maintain them properly or fix everything that the car really needs. The Westcountry has the oldest cars in the country. Fact.
That makes them the most difficult to deal with, on the basis that it's often done on the cheap. That makes for an unhappy situation sometimes, both for us, as we're trying to fix it for peanuts, and the owner, who hasn't been able to fix everything that he'd like to. I can't win that one sometimes, being a local problem.
If we have the opportunity to deal with a car properly, being given the resources we need, we've proven we can turn out work as good as any and better than a great deal.
Here's a tip for you. If your new telly fails, take it back to the shop and ask nicely. If it's been purchased second hand, you can still take it back to the shop, but you have to ask even more nicely.

The other cars with idle problems, are they on simteks also ?
You really should've just picked up the phone and had a chat as would anyone else if they're unhappy with a service anywhere, maccys,Argos etc..
The fact that you bought the car like that and then jumped on someone else's thread moaning about a well respected company on here without contacting them first just makes you look a total douche.

I had a problem with my car so spoke to alan who said to drop it in and they would have a look. Martyn plugged it into the lap top straight away, advised what maybe the problem and told me where I could get the part as they don't keep them in stock but could get one if I couldn't. And how much was all their help? NOTHING, ABSOLUTELY FREE. Even though I have spent some money with them for service etc I dought they would remember and to spend their time to help and not charge is great in this day and age so don't let people put you off Alan / Martyn, what most of us appreciate.

so basically what you are saying is if youre gonna spend 2k or less with us we dont actually have the time to do a proper job because of your workload but if your gonna spend big bucks and let us take our time, well put the effort in.
