Lidl

It is a bit like shopping when on holiday in Lithuania but I think Lidl is great. I find the fruit and veg on the whole pretty good for the price and fresh breads are excellent. Good prices on booze and lots of good stuff you don't find in main supermarkets. Aldi has best oven chips in UK though, straight cut ones in the blue pack at 99p per bag so I have to go there for those.

Possible legitimate reasons not to shop at Lidl:
1. Nagging rumours of some fairly shoddy treatment of employees (this might be the exception and not the rule, it's never easy to tell with these things).
2. Lagging behind in some areas for 'ethically sourced' products, if that kind of thing bothers you (fair-trade coffee or choccie, freedom-food meats, etc.)
Other than that, some real bargains to be had, as the OP points out.

The missus went the other day, I like their stuff but for years aave not been near Aldi or Lidl as it reminds me of being skint, I did my time going to Aldi at Old Trafford and then going to Iceland for the offers, driving a bloody Metro. I remember my middle boy asking for a glass of "Apfelsaft", poor kid hadnt seen English food for years
Thing is, I am kind of over it, have three lads aged 12,14 and 16 and they at like horses and we are getting through vast amounts of cash so I have said we will do a few trial Lidl shops as am spending getting on for £150, possibly more each week. I like their stuff, you get some alternative flavours, it is kind of like being on holiday !

2. I don't think 'ethically sourced' is anything special. If the companies really cared, all products would not be produced by humans but by machines (and packaged by monkeys ).
Lidl here I come.

Great product and good value! I've just eaten a bar Fin Carre whole nut chocolate that cost half as much as a Cadbury equivalent and tastes twice as good. Apart from the fact that one has to rub shoulders with poor people and foreigners, is there a reason not to shop there? What's the catch?

If you like it JT then dip yer bread mate. Nothing wrong with trying to get a bargain and saving money, look after the pennies and all that.
Personally though I'm not wandering around a shop designed for the lowest socioeconomic demographic

The state of some of the people who shop there puts me off plus they locate their stores slap bang in the middle of a area where the residents struggle to write their own name........
I personally would rather do shopping online but her indoors is intent on using Sunday to go shopping at either Spasda or Tesco.

THis is why you should never shop at lidl.
I once gave a hot former lapdancer a job in my bar and one night she got a friend to come help out , the friend was stunning, from EE somewhere and clearly a lap dancer but told me some other made up job. the EE girl gave me her number clearly impressed by my sharp suits and percieved social status. So a few days later in a random moment I decided to check out the local lidl as I sometimes did and low an behold the EE girl was there with her sister and once she saw me I got an instant look of shock, horror then pity as I could visibly see her mentally down grading me from potential sexual partner to broke fool who has to shop at lidl. No girl gets moist from a man who shops at lidl.

Less money spent on branded goods means more money spent elsewhere, clothes, shoes and a scent of better calibre than Joop.

I do my fair bit of shopping about, mostly Morrisons, Lidl an Aldi. Usually Alsi is the first choice as its about 5 mins drive after I have dropped the children at school. I don't have a Tesco particularly close and Asda is next to the Wolves ground and the uni, so it's like visiting a third world county!
All the stuff I buy for the childrens lunch boxes is less than half the price of what I would get in Tesco or Asda, and the veg is much fresher than the main supermarkets.
I find that is I shop there I save 1/3 of what I would going to Asda, I just dont have all the branded goodies that I might usually pick up.
I don't shop there out of necessity, the few people who know me a bit more personally know i'm not a foreigner (unless you count Welsh?!LOL) and i'm not old and smelling of ****.
I'm just not a brand snob who feels food is automatically better because I paid more or has Heinz or Birdseye stamped on it.
In fact since I started shopping about I have made more fresh meals as there isnt a lot of selection when it comes to TV dinners.
I bet if some of you lot tried it for a couple of months, and mingled with the manky soap dodgers you would be amazed at the results.

To be honest, its not that I don't care, but who here bothers to investigate if any of the stuff in the main supermarkets IS fairtrade??
The last I heard most of them were saying it was without actually having to give any legal proof that is was.
This was last year though, so maybe by some miracle the main suprmarkets have all had something enforced to prove their fair trade stamp???
Now I am thinking about that tasy block of milk chocolate in the fridge!!!

I'd rather pay for a hooker than fund another gold digger. The latter is more expensive and moans alot more (and when I mean moan, I mean nagging).
Pick up a girl who is a Aldi/Lidl shopper, then you can treat her by buying a Marks & Sparks microwave meal for two....cheaper than a take-away and more classy than a Maccy D's

I won't mind saving a few pennies, but I don't like the way they display food and stuff at Lidl. Their lighting is a bit dismal as well. If they glam it up a touch, I may go there a bit more. Food hasn't been too bad for the times I have been there and got some bargains in. I had their pre-packed Indian food a few months ago. it had more chicken bits than the one in Tesco. The ones who go there may like to try their chocolate coated icecream with almond flakes (fake Magnum). its cheaper than Magnum and a bit tastier as well.

Why not just get yourself a nice high class hooker instead? It might cost a little more but at least you get to pick exactly what you want and you don't have to talk to them over dinner.
I'm with Ali B, I'd feel more of a useless c8nt banging a gold digger than a hooker
(Though as I'm drop dead gorgeous I've never had to do either)

I like them, it's no frills shopping and some decent bargins to be had, as has been said, i do quite a bit of my shopping there as i have a local one here in croatia, the bottled water is a third cheaper, my water for washing and cooking comes off the roof and i don't have the courage to drink it straight, especially since i get the odd dead lizzard in the tank
Their bourbon vanilla ice cream is to die for, and it's the only place i can get spicey food because the croats are a bit meat, potatoes and bread.
The meat there is not so good so i use the butcher, which is better and cheaper same as in the uk
The ice field frozen veg is also very good, the peas with carrots in particular, and the pollock fish fingers are better than birdseye, i also use the packet soups to make pasta sauces as a useful alternative to cream which goes off if not used straight away.
Food snobs make me laugh, people brag about a good deal on clothes, cars houses ect, but shy away from sensible food shopping.
