We've had one or two members unleash (I like the choice of words) details of their personal life on here but the generic response tends to be accusations of attention ***** or the creation of much entertainment at the poster's expense. Sympathy and empathy have been notable in their absence.
Not sure Scoobynet is the ideal forum for that, although its certainly changed days from the days of the professional trolls (not to be knocked, by the way, that in itself created some truly classic and long running threads and certainly livened the place up for many).

I've fallen into the trap when going through my dark days of 2008-9 and if not the old guard of professional trolls, there are plenty of genuine opinionated tossers to fill their place.
I personally won't go there again, and rightly so... unless for actual comedy/amusement motives

Interesting on the anonymity point. If I had complete anonymity, I'd be more inclined to post the full, unabridged version, on the basis that a) my own experiences may prove helpful to some, but b) might get me into a little bit of hot water, so to speak, with others.
But I don't, which makes me reluctant.
And anyway, aside from the near suicide, deaths of close friends way too young, murder of a relative by another, near divorce, complicated affair (not related), class a drugs, and a whole host of other stuff that you don't want to hear about, my life so far has genuinely been a f'kin blast and I don't regret a second of it. Ok, so there's stuff I wouldn't do again but that doesn't mean I didn't enjoy it at the time.
Gotta make the most of each and every opportunity, and accept that with the good times come the bad. It's all about recognising balance
But I don't, which makes me reluctant.

There was a thread once where folk posted up pictures of "themselves".
If I remember it ended up with 14 bans and several court cases.
Like the idea of a single thread for life stories - or maybe a separate forum that is only accessible to senior / sensible members (If they exist).

DD, despite what seems to be a fair share of 'adverse life events' you've always come across as a mature and balanced individual to me.

A pointless slice of my life
Never really bothered at school, couldn't see the point really and was never really able to focus on set work. So by 15 I just couldn't be arsed with it all and walked out. Parents went super-nova mental as for them that was me writing off my life, but at 15 you don't really see the consequences of anything you do. So with that I spent 4 months cocking around having a blast until I got bored and decided to get a job.
I've never worked out if I've been super lucky or that there's been an eternal lie about getting jobs - as I've only ever been told I'd get a job with the "proper qualifications" behind me, quite how understanding crop rotation during the roman settlement of England would benefit me has always been a puzzle but hey-ho that's what we're told... anyway I lived in a coastal town that serviced the oil & gas industry so took it upon myself to walk from company to company seeing if they had any work. First place I walked into basically said that they needed someone to work in their yard, sorting out oilfield equipment - prepping it for dispatch and receiving it for refurb. So I took that job (my parents just about went into shock at this news). Then for a few months I was "yard boy" and worked like the dog off dambusters. Then one day I was called into the MD's office - went in and he was sitting there doing some paper work, without looking up he murmured "hunt, I need someone in Eygpt by Friday, can you go?" I said "yeah"... so with that I was now promoted to international status
Turns out that my few years in the yard working on this equipment had made me the most knowledgeable person in their maintenance - this and them landing a new contract with Gupco (state oil company of Egypt) meant that they needed me over there to maintain their equipment which also gave me in return operational knowledge - how the equipment was used offshore etc. So I walked into his office on the Thursday and he met me, gave me my ticket (first class BA to Cairo) and $500 cash as travelling money, at that time that was nearly a months wages - to "travel" to Cairo
So at 17 I flew to Cairo and stepped off the plane into what was literally a different world. I remember catching a whacky races style taxi to my hotel - the mena house, arriving at dusk, getting changed and popping for a quick thirst quencher at the bar... bar's busy, very busy and I lean through and order a whiskey and to my surprise the man I've just leaned over say's sorry to me and say's to the barman "put it on my tab", barman replies "OK, Omar" yep it was Omar Sharif So talk to him for a bit, before turning in for the night. Wake up to this....
Now I didn't work in Cairo as such as we worked down the coast at a "camp" just up from the Hagarda Hilton (which we would fly over on the way offshore) but would cycle in and out through Cairo so we got to know most people that were regulars at some of the hotels we stayed in. Definately not true mate, some people really enjoy reading Autobiographies, myself included. reading what others have been through often makes your own life seem better if nothing else, but forcing yourself to relive the bad times can have a hugely positve effect on your mental state as we all tend to lock the bad times away and forget they ever happened and, as a result, every future bad thing that happens tends to feel like the end of the world.

I agree with Leslie with somewhat different perspective. Life stories are personal. One can tell one's openly, if one likes. But the ones who wish not to tell shouldn't be judged with the conclusion that they have something to hide. Thing is, the world we live in is generally judgemental. Scoobynet isn't a humanistic forum, it never has been, it never will be. Hostility, competitiveness, attitudes such as "mine is bigger than yours" and psychoanalysing people's posts go on here by many inflated euphorics. For that reason, a lot of people may not want to share their autobiographies here on a thread. Some may, which is cool.
I'd like to add that people already share personal contents on line with the ones they begin to trust, and with the ones who seem to come from the same planet as theirs- mentally, I mean. But putting all that on the forum for all n' sundry may not appeal to some.
Meeting offline is certainly a good idea. Again, a lot of people would just like to give it large here, but when it comes to attending meets, they shy away. I was once told by someone, "If such-n-such is coming, I'm not gonna bother.
". LOL, okay. 
Another time, someone who I invited with his family said, "Ooh! My mississ thinks its really weird meeting peeps from da tinterbet. So, I'm gonna leave it.".LOL I asked him why he bothers with online forums, then. Its alright to blather here to kill your boredom, but you put these online mates down by indirectly calling them weird, and not recognising them as other human beings. Don't blame your mississ, you are the one who is weird, sir! Another reason why some wouldn't meet face-to-face because they don't want to drop their online persona, which is false. Ah, well. Free country, so hey! <shrugs> However, the willing but painfully shy bags of nerves shouldn't worry, because they should assume we are all regular humans at the end of the day; nothing extraordinary. We are not gonna eat one another or something. I have organised little meets etc.; been to some from SN/Muppets; met some good people. In meetings, one can decide who to open up to, and who not to. IMO offline group meets certainly bring realism to online communication.

I think when the occasion had come up under other topics, we have had snippets of certain peoples lives.
There are a few members on here I know a lot about, others very little and some more than enough!
The only thing is with talking about ones life story there is sometimes the need to make yourself feel validated in some way shape or form. To some it is exactly that, peoples actions possibly have positive effects on other people, even if they came out of something negative.
Some people font really have a life story they just live. Happy and fulfilled, no drama, no story just getting in with life.
I'm not sure where I sit really, but I am one of the peoria who has been quite open about myself. I don't used SN or any forum to masquerade as someone else or hide who I am.
I'm just me.

Not sure if SwissTony and RallyChick, met because of SN, but we went to their wedding last year. 700 mile round trip for a damn good night on the drink.
Didn't meet my other half on SN, but, she uses it. Got her own account and everything.

Hey, Ali. Have you forgotten that there were Ipkis and Miss Kinky as well, who met on SN, and got married? I met them both in Cardiff Muppet meet.

Having said that, I've made some really good friends through SN. Met them and everything.
Even know where some of them live and have sat in their kitchen having a cuppa and a chat.
I would tend to agree with you, though. I like the anonymity that SN affords, so you won't get my life story on here, however, socialising offline leads to a better understanding of folk.
Blackpool is an absolute ******* sh1thole though, so would never go there again.
