i think its a real shame when an employee/employer relationship degrades after handing in notice

i dont know what it was like for you before, in your working relationship, but i do know when i worked for Honda i was treated well and paid reasoably well in accordance with bonus structure - as soon as i handed in my one months notice i was hauled infront of a managemnt team who tried to use pressurising techniques, and when i stood my ground, for the following month i was treated like sh*t.
wasnt paid when everyone else was even though i had DD and mortgage payments, they wouldnt pay me until my finishing day, when i complained i was handed a cheque which ofcourse took a few days to clear, and did not include my agrred bonus as i was leaving. so sad

my friend works for costco and they have an understanding with staff and it results in a failry low turnover of staff, regulate with the law, keep employees happy and keep customers happy

imo quite a simple and fair reasoning

Dont let it go. People get killed over kess and people will kill others for less. If you can get him to see just how serious a position he is in, he will soon find them.

He wont have done this expecting people to 'come for the tools' and expecting to deal with them and the consequences. The bottom line is that he has only done this because he thinks that he can get away with it. If you invest a little time/money into showing him how important this is to you, he will soon fold (essentialy he thought that he could steal your tools and mug you off, without legal, monetary or physical consequences - when he sees that he is in a corner with the consequences and a length of scaffols pipe he will see it all differently).
