I have just changed my 11 year old Mini Cooper for a Mini Cooper Clubman D.

I have to say that I am amazed at the general performance and also the very good build quality. Full Chili Pack and leather upholstery.

The acceleration was a complete surprise, it takes off like a rocket. I was suspecting it of having a turbo but I cant find one anywhere! Not much point in exceeding 4K RPM in the gears but it has six speeds so the acceleration does not suffer.

It is absolutely smooth and whisper quiet inside, they certainly know how to make a diesel engine work these days. The handling is superb, wet or dry.

I have had it over 2 weeks and the fuel tank is still half full.

I was always against the thought of having a diesel but have certainly changed my thinking now. Mrs Leslie and I have not regretted getting the car.

Same here, Les.

Never thought I would buy a Diesel ...... but the pulling power, together with ridiculous mpg's and refinement makes it a no-brainer.

But there are many mechanisms for making donations to NHS hospitals / departments, for general funding or towards specific appeals. Just Google "donation to nhs hospital" and you will see many opportunities.

I used to liken diesels to Massey Fergusons until I bought one. Mine has great performance, bags of torque and I still get over 40MPG on a quick run. Happy days!

Yep!!

Diesels are the daddy ..... 55mpg, neck snapping acceleration, £120 road tax .... no brainer.

The performance of my Mini Clubman D is just about the same as yours Pete. I can see no advantage in going back to a petrol engined one now, in fact it would be largely a disadvantage.

Have you had experience of driving one Tony?

With a six speed close ratio box and a rev range up to 4K + I find that the acceleration is quite outstanding and the economy is streets ahead of the petrol engined Mini that I had before.

You ought to try one!

It's a shame ... as I loved my Scooby ... but gas guzzlers have had their day.

I looked to buy a STi in 2010 .... not only would I have lost around £500 a month more in depreciation, it would have cost me twice as much in fuel and three times as much in Road Tax.

It's painful for me to say it ..... but the Honda Civic Type S GT 2.2 Cdti kicks the STi into the weeds. Sorry Scooby - RIP.
