I'm not sure you can have powder in plumbed in system as it will settle over time and won't be very effective. A properly fitted foam system will do the job but go for the best you can afford.

I'd get a powder bottle fitted inside the car for you to grab should thing's get a bit 'too exciting'.

I've been running motorsport marshal fire training session's for quite a few years now.......Perhaps I ought to run a Scoobynet one?

imo dont get overly worried about not having monnex, it is the best, but other powders are still effective, and must still be widely used in motorsport applications. i cant think why its not used in amatuer motorsport applications, maybe just not that well known? who knows.

if they dont make it, they dont make it, but it shouldnt mean you go with out fire protection.
as rescue dude says often you need to tap powder units off the ground, if its been standing a long time, it can have a tendencey to settle and pack down, so maybe best just as a ****** and use manual extinguisher.

alone the powder will be effective at knocking down the flame, but it has no cooling properties, where as a liquid based media will offer cooloing properties - in an underbonnet fire scenario cooling is essential to prevent burnback imo.

we are talking ideal scenarios and often that doesnt reflect real life, but no harm in prepairing as much as possible.

rescue dude does your training include practical firefighting? and on liquid feul fires?

id love a job in that area, includes my two interests, fire fighting and motor sport.

It's mainly car fire's using a scrapper to set fire to as that is more realistic. We can do pan fires using petrol/diesel and methanol. That give's you an idea of what it's about but I much prefer burning a scrap car.

Whereabouts are you jef? Always a shortage of Marshal's.

There are motorsport marshal training days all over the UK. They hold them around Feb-March and they're always happy to see new faces.

I'd be more than happy to list the dates and venues when I know about them.

The one's I help out at are based around the Midland Hill climbs, Prescott and Loton. (Not Shelsley) Next year's is at Loton Park near Shrewsbury. They also have a good day at Curbrough and I'm hoping to help out at Pembrey next year where I train the Rescue crews.
