Stu

Applecross Inn for lunch in Applecross http://www.applecross.uk.com/inn/

Dores Inn for dinner in Dores if the timing suits http://www.thedoresinn.co.uk/

Both are amazing but best to book if you can as likely to be busy over the holiday weekend

Also, personally I'd skip Duck Bay - once uber cool nightspot and marina is now more tea and scones and icecream. Give the Lodge on the Loch a look for lunch instead - its just as you come into Luss on the A82 about ten minutes before Duck Bay

http://www.loch-lomond.co.uk/dining/

Its more casual than it looks. We used to live around those parts before we moved north

You'll be spending some of the time on single track roads around Applecross, the rest should be fine. The pass of the cattle to Applecross is stunning - I've taken a 30 foot motor home across that lol.

And be sure to stop off at Eilean Donan Castle on A87 on the way to Applecross.

Took this the last time we were passing

Have a great trip

Mind take octane booster as V power or Tescos 99 is not available after Inverness buddy. At least one 20L jerry can for back up, at least!
A full size spare wheel also, sounds like a right pain in the **** humping all that around but you will be thankful if needed. One year one of our guys got a burst tyre thanks to a flatbed truck and had to limp home on the emergency rubber from Skye.
On those roads you need full grip

As a 'local' nothing wrong with your plan. Do mind the coaches on Duke's pass though

As you can quickly go from this:

To this when one cuts a blind and narrow bend on you.

As you are heading up to Fort william, if you get chance, do the 'Scotsburgring' out to Kinlochleven. Essentially, a big loops round the Loch, amazing roads and you end up about a mile from where you originally left the road!

5t.

Incidentally - 'cos my camera ran out of memory (old e-10 = no more SD cards) I drove all the way home (Derby way) in one hit from Applecross.

I just kind of started South and didn't stop (apart from Fuel, nature stop and a bite to eat)

Yep - Courtesy of good old Google maps you can walk the whole route with images if you like. Love this technology.

The M5 makes 400bhp on any old crap thanfully mate, so as long as its Petrol, it will work. My only worry is the Applecross section as I can only do 250miles on a tank, so if I cant find fuel round there, I may not be able to get back. LOL

BMW M series cars dont have any spare wheels at all sadly, so I prey for no punctures.

Sad for him, what a pisser.

Follow the A82 north through Glencoe until you reach Glencoe Village. Turn right onto the B863 signposted for Kinlochleven and enjoy!

The road follows the south side of Loch Leven for about 6 miles to Kinlochleven. Stop at the Ice Factor for a coffee and marvel at the old Aluminium works.

Afterwards continue on the B863 along the north side of Loch Leven for about 8 miles until you reach North Ballachulish, turn right back onto the A82.

It will add about 12 miles and ~30mins to your journey!

Basically, nip off the A82 just before Fort William towards Kinlochleven. The road is superb.

Should be able to get fuel in Lochcarron - just off your Applecross route, before you take the Pass of the Cattle, but make sure its open on the day you'll be passing, as shops and garages up there are not always open when you expect

Cheers

There's a community petrol station in Applecross which is open 24/7 and needs support to survive.

Well worth filling up and enjoying a coffee & a cake in the Applecross Inn!

Wicked - Thank you.
Booked this section in for a blast! The missus is going to do this section, she needs the practice.

Thanks, will bear this in mind. Thankfully my iPhone TomTom has all fuel stations and phone numbers in it so can call ahead, just in case.
