Many differant ways to achieve the same/better finish, As i dont have access to a DA at home i used 2000 wet+dry and a double density block for the flat bits, then a 3000 trizac disc wet by hand, then used a rotary machine polisher with 1) 3m fastcut plus 2) 3m extra fine plus, and 3) 3m ultra fine se, once the machine polishing is finished it'll be having the 3 stage Blackfire "Wet ice over fire" treatment

So that is obviously not the case then? It was your new BFF who advised against it by the way.

I suppose your car has had so many layers of paint by now that the paint weighs more than the panel it's sitting on, good job though to make all the paint finishes finally match.

The results from those latest pics look superb! I wish I had the time and knowledge to be able to do something like this, I'd probably have my account on here deleted if I posted up the date of when I last washed my car!

I zoomed in on that finished panel and showed it to my wife saying, 'do you like the house'? Looking at me blankly I zoomed out and she was pretty amazed to see that it was a reflection on car paint.

Been at it again today, started by going over the boot lid with the machine again as i was'nt 100% h,a,p,p,y, it was a donor panel that i removed the holes on and painted to go spoilerless,

That done it was onto the front door,

Flatted,

And machined,

And i think this is a cracking reflection shot,

And finally for this weekend the wing,

Paintwork before,

And flatted,

And machined back again,

Like i said, enough sanding for one weekend.

And i did realy want to use my new Blackfire "Wet ice over fire kit" this is a 3 stage kit and it goes a little something like this,
First washed the car using a hose, 2 buckets, a wash mitt and some Autosmart "Duet" shampoo,

1st stage, Blackfire "Gloss enhancing polish" applied with a micro fibre applicator to 1/2 to 1 panel at a time and buffed off straight away with a buffing towel,

2nd stage, Blackfire "Wet dimond all finish paint protection" this applied with a foam applicator all over car as it requires 15mins to cure, then buffed off with a buffing towel,

And finally... Blackfire "midnight sun paste wax" applied to 3 or 4 panels at a time with a foam applicator, requires 5 mins to cure then buff with a buffing towel,

And some randoms after i'd finished (not the best light for the pic's but never mind)

Its been a long day

Thats pretty sick, the picture of the Renault looks like a direct picture, and not a reflection!!!!

Top work, I must get the pics up of the areas I need to attend to, then you can tell me if they are workable or not

She does, she locks him out of the house; so he then cleans the car.

that is an amazing finish and lots of good old fashioned elbow grease has gone into it.
i always struggle when it comes to body work, compounds, knowing what grade paper to use and for what purpose etc etc...
could you tell me why exactly you were sanding the cars finish laquere off , i can see the results are simply fantastic but will there be no protection on the bodywork like there was ?.
will this mean stone chips will be aquired easier ?.
so what was the purpose in laymans terms please haha.

Factory paint may look nice, but if you look close you'll see the Orange peel affect in the paint/lacquer, this dulls the gloss and blurs reflections, removing the peel deepens the gloss and sharpens reflections, so just an enhancement realy.

If you cut through the paint and saw a cross section of it you would see the slightly uneven, wavy lacquer. When you wet sand it you are taking off as little lacquer as possible while taking off as much of the uneven layer as possible.

The top line shows the showroom finish while the blue line shows the aim of wet sanding and how light can reflect much more consistently, giving it the mirror finish you see.
