Go for a lithium battery powered one for starters, our work has had them all and the only ones that are lasting and getting daily abuse to fit industrial doors etc is the Makita lithium 18v and Panasonic Lithium 21v sure there 21v.... And these have not let us down.
The Makita with the red standard battery takes a while to charge and the performance only lasts our guys approx 12mths before they are just goosed, the standard dewalt follows them at around 18 months.
But this is trade use and as mentioned get abused, but there is a clear difference in the 'life' of a drill depending on the batteries it's using, and the batteries cost nearly as much as a new drill driver and 2 batteries and a charger.
Hope that helps! If not sorry!

Your thoughts on the jcb ?

Its hard to say Craigo as everyone has different 'DIY' needs, for everyday joe blogs putting up a shelf etc then either will be fine, but if the jcb has the metal gears an lithium batteries etc then I personally would go for the jcb
newer dewalts we have had problems with the gears failing in them and the plastic chucks just not gripping and wearing quickly.
After years of buying drills etc for our company best all round drill has a metal chuck, metal gears and lithium batteries, more of these you get the better the chance will be of having a good drill for a longer time

Those drills are crap
Though a few of our shop lads use the makita cos it's cheap
I'm on to milwalki Panasonic festool and hilti.
Dewalt batteries need to be xr version at least .....
Look at machine mart and screw fix before buying at b n q

Jcb are at the cheaper end of the market and if somewhere else has another deal, deffo have a look around if you can for something better I was thinking you wanted to just go b n q for either of those.....
