Answer below
in our religioun that is considered haram meaning forbidden for the reason that a woman is a sacred thing as the quran mentions and should only be touched by her husband...
But thanks for all views, i think personally i,ll inform his boss again to seek HR advice and let the lad crack on, if it effects me in anyway then i,ll address accordingly
Cheers guys

What the guy did would be standard practise in Saudi, although it's also a bit of a moot point since women are basically banned from the business world there.
The obvious problem then is that he isn't in Saudi, so I suggest you forward him this link, and have a whip-round in the office to sponsor his trip

However living in England we are told to respect the law of the land in Islam so his actions are totally disrespectful.
Best thing to do is pull him to aside and explain the situation. And basically stop being a ****.

why can't the guy just explain his reason for not shaking someone's hand? I had a real heavy cold for most of December, I had to meet will male and female business associates throughout this time, and while I would usually shake their hands on joining and leaving their company, I explained that I would spare them the risk of passing my germs to them by not shaking hands with them.
If someone at a senior level in a company gets offended by this, they need to have a word with themselves. It never ceases to amaze me what offends some people.

I also have not shook a female hand for many years
There is no difference of opinion on this in Islaam. It is forbidden & rejected. When the situation arises, I explain that it is forbidden in Islaam to touch a female who is not a relation & we Muslims suffice ourselves with what is legislated for us, in other words, verbal greetings such as "Hello! Nice to meet you " I don't think this has ever caused me to loose any business, or left the the lady who was left hanging feeling that I'm a "sexist"

i also have also not shook a womens hand in many years at work. best way about it is to explain or just walk int he room with a tissue, ive noticed whether you have a cold or not they dont tend to put their hand out to shake your hand anyway. and no one gets offended to it.
the above is also a good alternative, i quite like that idea and may use it in future, a gift to make it forgotten

Guys ive got 3 new grads in my team one is a muslim who practices, he has to pray between i think 1 and 5 but also wont shake a womens hand.
Personally the guys is a good lad works hard
But ive had his boss on asking about this hand shaking issue, i dont see it an issue if thats his beliefs but the job role hes in is very customer facing not sales but consultancy.
Ive told his boss if hes any issues then he needs to speak to HR about it, and from my standpoint hes fine.
I think the reason the boss is keeping tabs on him is he met a high up VP and didnt shake her hand, which after the meeting she commented on the way he delt with it,
Obviously i know why he didnt but in the business world some dont and would precieve this as being rude.
Reason im asking is have any of you or do any of you have this and how do you cater or address it. Im trying to stay calm with the boss, but i can see a slight move towards making this young lads world hard. Religion is hard in business and although i know how it works, as i said above alot would just see it as rude, and it may effect his career.
Any advice welcome
Ted

Anyway why tell us when the Daily Mail would be even more receptive?

which law is being broken by not shaking hands? My sister is a solicitor and she hasnt heard of any law of this nature. Is the previous poster a foreign national and not a citizen of this country? What do you want from these people? Should they act like the majority and get pissed, cause fights, **** in the bins, try to get laid with anything that moves, claim its love, then get somebody else and say I was drunk, repeat this every weekend and then blame other people because they havent got anywhere in life? How british do you have to be, to be british?

There is no law being broken, obviously!
But it is a lack of respect towards our western beliefs and customs that makes most of us angry, it is our country and it would be respectful to adhere to some integration.
You are offending us!

This is like so many things in life, a personal choice, i have travelled with muslims who are involved in tourism and go to many different countries as part of their business, they have no problem with adjusting according to the customs of the country they are in.
The problem as i see it rightly or wrongly, is this new age muslim radical types that want to have it every which way, and any deviation from their personal interpretation of the koran is seen as an affront to their religion.
There are passages in the koran that allow for muslims to do/eat and adjust accordingly for whatever is necessary for survival, but the militants/ idiots choose to ignore them.
I have muslims from all over the world staying with me as home stays studying at a very high level, mostly PHD and international projects of one form or another, what always makes me chuckel is when we have one they are very liberal as no 5am wake up prayers, most don't pray at all, eat anything and i mean anything, quite often want to try bacon and sausages, don't care if it's halal or not, drink alcohol, smoke, page three of the sun is a treat not to be missed ect, ect.
Then as soon as there are two of them you hear the alarm in the morning, more often than not a phone tune of the mosque call to prayer, then the inquiries about halal food start, and the formalities of speech/meet and greet and religion kicks in, they pray together, go to mosque on fridays and become different people.
Then when either of them leaves the other turns into a westernised liberal.
I'm talking about muslims from countries like saudi, libya, oman, jordan the
list goes on, but you get the gist.
I'm sure i'll get jumped on, but this is my personal experience over many years of traveling and hosting, so say what you will, it is what it is, and it's very rare to find one that does not deviate, in fact i only ever met two and both were beduins, one in egypt and the other from saudi, and i have had close contact all my life, since i could walk next door from my grans to eat fresh chapaties and pakora at the age of 3yrs.

The group of muslims in Rochdale didnt shake any young girls hands...
They just drug them and sh@g them...
Wonder how that would go down in a business meeting?
Its all archaic nonsense.......And if im sure about one thing, its not "respect" for the women that causes muslims indifference to the opposite gender..
