"Pikey" threads

Well now I am really p*ssed off.
I've trawled through all the replies and I can't find one mention of what lake we are supposed to be fishing at. I've got better things to do than waste my time over links that have no relevance to the title.
I'm not going to open the Stickleback thread now as I can't trust the title to represent the content.

thank you so much.
I have nothing else to do today apart from protect this community from a few idiots!
Please do not abuse the fact that I do not want to close a thread that discusses how this site is moderated.
Have a little respect!

I am not brown nosing, but just the fact he has not answered my email, tells me he is busy dude today.
Remember he does have another job to do as well.

Guys - I feel sad when things like this happen - didnt people feel upset when scoobynet crashed for 3days last month?? what would they do if we lost the bbs permanently?? Please support SdB and not turn SNET into a farcical mockery and result in it being shut down...

Why is the original issue (the offence caused over the word pikey) likely to result in the closure of the BBS as seem s to be implied? Has there been a threat made? This is important, because ultimately it will impact on;
a/ what people can and can't post
b/ censorship of posts
From posts here most people seem to find 'pikey' a harmless, jokey word, without reference to the words historical origin. The context and meaning of the word has evolved much as for the word gay. Obviously it had deeply upset and offended at least one person - so where do we now draw the line on posts?
I understand if someone post a phrase or term that is obviously offensive on the grounds of race, religion or sex, but when a term is used that is interpreted differently by a tiny minority who's right? I always thought that the majority decide what is acceptable?
Some clarification appreciated!

I think you have to accept the difference between, it shouldn't upset and it has upset.
the fact is someone has been offended by it, and rathre than go back and delete it, a request has been put forward to avoid the use of the word.
Its like someone being offended when you say the word ****. It doesnt hurt anyone, but some dont like it.
I suppose if someone complained about the swearing on this board, would it be wrong of simon to ask if we could refrain from it?
I hate admitting people are right, especially simon but I dont think its such a difficult request.
And if anyone thinks my head is lodged up simons backside, then please consult some of my previous threads.

Going to jump sides though and say that due to the variety of culturess with access to the internet, I am sure it is possible that a massive number of the words we use from day to day will offend someone.
In a normal situtation I would say, I will not censor this, because then where do you stop censoring?
Everyone will be offended by something, and in my opinion in a normal circumstance I would let the law decide what is acceptable when writing my own posts.
The only difference here, is that there is more to this than meets the eye which cannot be divulged in public, I know i dont have all the facts so will trust the judgement of others, hence my decision to fall into line.

I'm only going to make one post in this thread, and this is it;
I have had a few weeks away from Scoobynet, as i have had a few things that i need to sort out, however Simon asks for one simple request, this is then followed with several pages of people making comments.
Simon and the moderators put a lot of time into the BBS, on one of the few occasions that they ask for something back that people feel that they have to argue back.

I think what Si is trying to say is that it is more than just someone who is a little teed off at the use of the p word. I seriously doubt that he would be going to these lengths if it was just that. Besides its his BBS and he can run it however he wants. I overstepped the mark a while back and I got a slap on the wrists for it. I was going to reply to another post in the same fashion and had to physically hold myself back to prevent it. managed to in the end though.
cut him some slack would you chaps? you can tell that sense of humour failure is perilously close.
cheers,
astraboy.

Your posts are a tribute to you IMHO. And as adam said, check out the history to see if we always agree!
You are one of the most strong willed and opinionated people I know, but are intelligent and decent enough to see that this is both important, and more complicated than it appears.
I respect and thank you for being a gentleman.
Regards
Simon

Simon, apologies. Shouldn't have been posted, and I have an inkling of what you may be facing. I can see that this could have serious implications (whether you think it's a big deal or not - someone clearly does, and is prepared to do something about it), and Scoobynet is too valuable a resource to lose over a few clever comments.

Appreciate what you're saying, astraboy, but this "it's Simon's BBS" thing is all wrong. Sure, the servers are his and he probably owns copyright on the content, but who makes the content?
Edited to say I'm genuinely surprised the sense of humour failure hasn't come yet.
