sorry to hear ur bad news m8. what a bunch of to$$ers, makes me blood boil. my mate lives in fallowfield and his neighbour had a brand new beemer 3 series coupe nicked after about 3/4 attempts. they tried 'fishing' the keys through the letterbox, breaking into the house, removed the sensor for his security light eventually they came back in broad daylight, while a mobile alarm fitter was puttin a new alarm onto the BM!!!! put a knife to his throat and took the car........ bagheads who are paid a £50 fix to take a £20k + motor. a S3 was taken in stretford recently. cars are spotted and staked out by these scum until they get the bloke/woman on the own............

How do you "not shop" at a petrol station
Just read the link. Operation Maiden my **** just the usual car crime is not a priority
£100,000 per day in Manchester alone! Mind if they only nicked 1,200 the Scoobs should be safe
If there was an organised gang knocking over Sub Post Offices and taking £700,000 a week they wouldn't be advising staff not to serve people with shotguns and balaclavas! There would be a team dedicated to track/catch the gang.
Surely the sums involved indicate that this is organised crime not joyriders or the steal & strip boys. Perhaps they are to busy staking out the local fairways to greab another golf ball ringing gang

I take it there's still no news on the Scoob yet Stratman. If its on the road someone must have seen it by now if its in still in the North West. It is a very clean distinctive car, silver pre face lift, 16 inch prodrive alloys. Also had a my00 high level boot spoiler and later bucket seat type interior. If you see a silver 96 model matching the above description anywhere round the north west odds on its Stratmans Scoob. Hope it turns up (undamaged) soon, and the Scumbags catch leprosy or something worse.
Speak to you in the office later Stratman.

Thanks Steve555 for that link.
£12 million quids worth nicked in 4 months in Manchester area alone.....scary!!
There was a knife point car-jack from ASDA, at Hyde I believe, not long ago and the poor victim was abducted as well.
This is making me real nervous about getting another Scoob, or anything tasty. You cant let the scumbags beat you...but then again your families safety comes first.

Are there any stats available as to which cars are being taken?
I know we concentrate on scoobs here, but it's most likely every other car out there is being targeted in the same way. I doubt very much it's a car make related thing.
I bet if you read the BMW, Evo, even Rover BBS's you would see similar stories. It's a sad state of afairs for our country right now, there seems very little chance of detection.
Hope things are sorted soon for you,. Not impressed with the response from ASDA. The only way they will act is if they are shamed into acting it seems.

Only just seen your post - glad you and the family are OK - the ASDA is used weekly by my wife and we have just agreed that she is not using the Scooby in future for the shopping runs!!
Re the Media - why not try the Bury Times - only a local rag I know but ASDA is the sort of organisation that prides itself on supporting the local community etc - if we can get a debate in the BT letters page (there should be several of us local enough to write to the paper) let's see if we can't get some action!!
Let me know what you all think - if we coordinate writing to the BT maybe we can get soem action from ASDA - if they were aware of previous instances then the least they could do is warn their customers!!
Out of interest, there was a uniformed T5 parked up just round the corner (on the road from the roundabout to the M66) tonight - noy seen one there before - maybe the old bill are locking the stable door!!

Hi Stratman
Sorry to read what happened, but glad you and the family are ok. It's certainly making me think cos i used to live in north Bolton and went to the Pilsworth cinema quite a lot. Been a while since I've been there though since moving, but even 18 months ago there were always scumbags loitering about. I can't believe they wouldn't invest in better cctv given the nature of the area?!?
Well, hope you get it sorted soon.
Jim

I can't imagine that ANY company would invest in CCTV unless they were forced to do so by their insurance company. Ask for the name of their public liability insurers and contact them.. At minimum they may be interested in the CRAP system ASDA have installed..

My BMW was stolen from my house (broke in and took keys as I slept!) so when I got my next car I made sure i had a Clifford Blackjax fitted - It is a little discreet switch on the dash on which you tap in a pin code within 30 seconds of the car moving or else it will immobilize it and set the alarm off (puts brake lights on first to warn following cars). It works either when you first start the car or when a door is opened if the engine is running.
This was designed to stop things like this happening and allows the theives to get a safe distance away from you before it kills the car. If you do get jacked just get out the car and call the police pronto - within 30 seconds the car will be stationery and wailing it's heart out - there is NO WAY of bypassing it without knowing the blackjax code (it literally takes 1 or 2 seconds to enter this code in and soon is second nature).
To me this is better than a Tracker in these cases as Trackers can be tricked easily enough..
Even stops them stealing the keys as you sleep as they will only get 30 seconds drive away before they are immobilised.
It is standard fit on high end Cliffords but I think it can be added onto others.
I will NEVER have a car without this now.
In Manchester I know www.sqplus.com do them (they fitted mine and are very good)

Ony problem is if they realise you have this system fitted, and have only stopped 30 seconds down the road.
They then leg it back, break into your house, and order you to give them the PIN at knife point.

DW.. unlikely as the car is now sat in the road with the siren wailing the horn sounding and the lights flashing....
However, when they come back the following week to steal it again.. they'll know it's fitted..

Asda may take a different view if you start putting up signs in their carpark, saying something like...
"Please be careful when using this carpark as vehicles are being stolen at knife point!!"
Flouro signs with bold black lettering would be nice.
I'm sure it would would have dramatic effect on their sales and not just in the short term.

Thanks again to all of you for showing so much interest and support.
I have written to ASDA head office at Leeds to see if I get a better reaction than I did from the Branch Manager. There must be something we can all do to raise the profile of the car-jacking problem. It is reaching epidemic proportions and something has to be done.
It s not just an ASDA problem, as this is happening on Cinema car parks, at traffic lights, Hotel car parks etc. The Police told me that if the scumbags had not got it off the ASAD car park they would have simply followed me home and kicked the door in and grabbed the keys. The scumbags apparently just sit on the car park and watch and wait until the right car and opportunity comes along.
I went to look for a replacement car today and the salesman in Bury told me he had had two cars nicked from Warner Cinema car park..which ispart of the same complex.
TOMWRX you have a good idea. If we can get enough people in the Bury area to get together we might be able to exert some pressure on ASDA to do something. Tom I will drop you an email.
Does anyone know if its illegal for me to hand out leaflets to people, say on public road into ASDA, warning them about the dangers of parking there? Please let me know.
I am sorry to keep banging on about all of this but it effects us all. Your pride and joy could be next!

How did the test drives go this morning. Did you get to take the Vectra GSI out for a spin, or have you decided another Scoob is the only answer. Give me a ring at work before 4.30.

Just to change the subject slightly....welcome LIZ EVO 6.
Liz, nice to see you on Scoobynet....check out the events section and get along to some of the local meets.
Post your pic in the gallery (your cars that is)...just to make us scoob owners (and ahem!..ex-scoob owners) drool, its a gorgeous silver example.

Stratman,
Just read thru the thread, I stopped going to pilworth after reading bout a couple of incidents in the paper, figured if Asda couldn't be arsed about peoples safety just outside thier door I couldn't be arsed boosting thier profits. Hope you get sorted on the car front.
Mark.
Legacy B4 RS
P.S. If Liz Evo 6 is the one I think it is, you really should post some piccys, bonny car.

Well its happened again!!
Three geezers, who sound like the same gang who did us over attacked a guy on a Bury car park with hammers, last week, in an attempt to jack his car. They didnt get it this time.
The lad is the son of Bolton North MP, so this time its high profile and has made the press, ( check it out at www.thisisbury.co.uk/lancashire/bury/news/BURYTOPN ) perhaps the authorities will take more notice now.
p1driver...I would like to take you up on your offer. I will email you soon.

Why do authorities only ever do something about the problems people are having, when it happens to one of their own
If they were more pro-active and up-front about car-jacking etc. then we might not be in this mess
