Yeah I too hope that report is a sick joke, but it probably isnt cos its easier for The Bill to nick the victim than it is to go and get the villains. They can then appear to be doing something about it, and Tony Blair can then go on grinning on TV saying that he is being tough on crime. Well all I can say is B@ll@cks!!

Incidently p1driver, you should edit your address from your post...just to be safe m8....these scumbags have computers. If you dont know how just click the edit icon at the top left of your post.

tbh, if its just me in the car I will make a bloody good attempt to clobber them with the wheel brace (under my seat). I dont care too much if I get cut as long as I do some damage. And the plan is to get them first.

It does worry me that the police would probably attempt to prosecute me for this. It just isnt right. There is no reasoning why you cannot smack some1 who is attempting to take YOUR car off you which YOU PAID for. They know the police aren't gonna catch them for it, and the fact they know they wont be in the wrong if the person lashes out adds to their willingness to commit the crimes. IT IS REDICULOUS!!!

Sorry forgot to mention, but I have been looking at John Feltsteads Sport this weekend as a possible replacement. It really is a cracking car and I would say it handles better that the Turbo, but thats also mostly attributed to Johns driving skills.
If anyones looking for a non turbo scoob you can't do better than Johns car.

I cant decide what to do, cos at the moment my missus and kids are not keen on me having another scoob, and I have been looking at other less high profile cars...sadly to say.

If I get something else I hope you will all still speak to me lol.

John if you are reading this...I will speak to you tonight.

Start carrying your own concealed weapon in your car if you do get another scoobs. Don't know what the legality is on that part, but you can't really rely on the cops anymore to protect you and your property as they're busy busting up drivers in cruises and motorways...

DON'T put a concealed weapon in your car... during a stop & search just after the docklands bomb (they did it to most of my friends who lived in docklands, london), I was arrested for having a swiss army knife in the passenger footwell of my car. I was given a formal caution appearance - under the 1996 Offensive weapons act and even though it has 'expired' now - it gave me a lot of grief when getting an american visa and other things later on in life. They never really expire, even though, by law they are supposed to.

I thought a swiss army knife was OK - but it definitely is not - and the inside of your car counts as a 'public place' (which pisses me off intensely)

a cop friend told me that , had it happened after that wee lad damiola was killed then I would have been charged and had a criminal conviction.

so think of something else.

last time someone tried to get into my car (not sure if a carjack or just a road rage bloke) - I just burned away. (taking out his wingmirror in the process...

Unhappy

I thought a swiss army knife was under the length limit of a knife and was okay.

I carry one as it is handy and have used it a few times to get me home... it is goot for cutting and stripping wires etc..
Although the Scooby has not had such problems <touch wood>.

Can they search you or just the car?
As mine is in my pocket.

Can't they search you if they have a reason to suspect something?

Personally I have a **** off Maglight in the car ...for emergencies and breakdowns of course...

So now as drivers we have threats coming from both the car-jackers and the cops. I wish they could just get off their butts and do some real protecting once in a while. Its not like the good old days when cops actually did help the community instead of being a private money making enterprise...

no, if you read further up this thread, it was another incident - but more high profile due to the MP's son.

Haven't read all the thread, sorry. Stratman, best of luck.

Stunned to hear of the restrictions on swiss army knives. I wouldn't threaten anyone with one - the blade doesn't lock, it would probably close on your fingers if you tried to use it - assuming you could get the fiddly thing open in time.

We discussed this a month or two ago and one idea which I liked was to keep a car-related spray in the car which just happened to be a savage eye irritant, with the nozzle adjusted appropriately. WD40, windscreen de-icer, glass cleaner...

Hi everyone, I hope this is not becoming boring but....

...there has been yet another attack, in Breightmet, which is only about 3 miles from where we were done over, and I think in the David Crausby MP constituency.

This gang is apparently roaming the area and attacking people with impunity and nothing seems to be stopping them.

I have now contacted David Crausby and also my own MP Jim Dobbin and expressed our concerns. It might help the case if we all bombard these two MPs, plus your own MP with emails and all express our concern at what is a serious problem affecting us all.
Dash-beggery-eck this is worse than speed cameras!!

Email addresses are: crausbyd@parliament.uk and dobbinj@parliament.uk

If everyone plus their friends and families emailed their MPs, then we might get a chain-email effect.

The higher we can make the profile the better.

The Bury Times and Bolton Evening News and Manchester evening News are keen to run the car-jacking story.

Drop in the cost of trackers may **** We need improved conviction rates and severe penalties.
[rant]
When everyone has a tracker the bloody police will "not have the resources to repond" to the calls generated! A local pensioner dialed 999 whilst burglars were forcing their way into her home. They assaulted & robbed her then made good their escape as the police "prioritised emergency response" arrived almost three hours later.
Will the Chief Constable reveal what his internal investigation found his officers had considered more important than a violent crime in progress.

I simply despair, nearly half the working day passed before and officer was available...'kin doughnuts too sugary and tea too hot!!! [/rant]

I would never condone anyone carrying weapon it would just escalate the level of violence. However the extension bar attached to a large socket under my drivers seat is purely a sensible precaution in case of a puncture occurring in a dark lane.

I'm happy to write to my MP and yours and the Chief Constable and the Police Committee and the press and anyone else for that matter. Not that I believe it will make any difference, but at least I can feel I've done something.

How about posting an outline including the details of these crimes as a basic format for people work from? I'll even send one to Quentin W suggesting he does one of his famous investigative pieces. Though he'll probably show no interest unless they're nicing imports

As I said before, for most of you guys, just carry something that can be used as a weapon. Screw what the police says.

Are they here to protect you from criminals?
Yes.

Will they?
Still in debate as they look like they've prioritised in doing something else thats more important. (how many cops do you see in cruises?)

What about our rights in protecting ourselves? I've had to deal with vandals and burglars myself because the cops couldn't care less about it. Don't they have enough speed trap cameras to deal with speeders already??!!

Be careful there !
My mate Ted was arrested and cautioned last year for throwing a marrow at an intruder. The marrow hit the young scoundrel on the back of the head, gave him a right wack. He reported Ted to the local police and they came and gave him a caution. Apparently the lad was only on Teds land trying to get his football back......All the very best..Blutes

Theoretically you can carry a folding knife with a NON-locking blade without having to provide a good reason. Any longer or fixed or locking blade and the knife counts as an offensive weapon and you have to have a good reason for being in a public place with it.

Don't know how big your knife is/was Rapid but you seem to have been very unlucky, or poorly represented.

Perversely it is legal to carry an unloaded air rifle in a public place even if it is in full view and not in a case. Don't try that in the City, kids!!

The use of any instrument as a weapon will most likely increase your chances of conviction so be careful and make it count. In this day and age even if you are convicted there should be plenty of opportunity to create publicity about it.

I for one will protect my belongings and nearest and dearest and frankly I've no qualms about the level of force or running the risk of conviction, only by bringing this issue constantly to the front pages will something be done about it. Stand up for yourselves AND other people and we can turn the tide.

Ian I think you are right about keeping the issues on the front pages and high profile. There are plenty of us here on Scoobynet, its just a question of how to best co-ordinate our voice to best effect.

I am not sure how we can best do that...any ideas???

As I mentioned earlier, causing an email avalanche on our MP's and news media may be one wa....wot do you all think?

You can tell I have no scoob to play with...I think I am getting glued to the keyboard lol...all very sad.. sad.. sad!!
