I have a set of Monitor Audio Silver S6's in the living room and they are quite frankly awful with the entry level Pioneer amplifier that they are currently running off. If partnered up with the Marantz PM17 Ki-Sig I have in the spareroom, you wouldn't even believe they are the same speaker.

Forget Bose btw.
Did a bit of listening today, and really liked the B&W 686 bookshelf speakers. Quite small, but a really big sound. £300. They also sound good at low volume levels.
As for a source i tried the Denon RCD-N7 and the Marantz CR603. Both are all in one amp/cd players. Not sure tbh about them.

[quote=paulr;10677920]The 2nd, where i can listen to music. I agree about being careful, but i do prefer a more "fuller" sound than a thin trebly sound.
Anyway, i'm off to have a listen to some today. B&W 686 are small and Sevenoaks sell them.[/quote
Then consider speakers that have the bass ports facing forward. In a room of your size that may well give you the ability of having that 'full sound' but without the problem of bass boom because the speakers are too close to the rear wall.
There are so many options out there but some of the best small speakers I've personally heard are Castle, Neat and Dynaudio
Happy hunting

So many options, but so few decent hi-fi stores. There used to be two Sevenoaks that i used to use, both closed. Three superfi stores within 80 miles, thats about it.

Speakers consider http://www.audio-teams.com/aureview/..._ls3-5/1.shtml
Definitely use stands.
Amp - Get a second hand Sugden A21 handmade British amp - They are gems
CD player forget it . Get your hands on a LP12
The above will sing .

Yes, that is a real problem these days but we are all to blame. We shop around for the cheapest prices on line and put our local retailers out of business.

What hifi (dont read it anymore!!) had a section at the back telling people to haggle and not to pay anything near full price, dont know if they still have that, we used to get customers coming on for a 2 hour demo, then start playing the "well ive been somewhere else and they are doing for this price", used to really annoy me.
