What possessed you to feel that you had to talk down his very real efforts with your unecessary criticism when it came to carrying the torch?

You were very quick to point out that he was not necessarily a hero although he was doing an obviously very hazardous job as part of his duty, and that if anything he was in fact a liability for even being out there!

I imagine you have not seen the video which demonstrates how difficult it was for him to even carry the torch and walk with it. If not try and get a sight of it.

He has had his entire life effectively destroyed while carrying out those duties in the field and he demonstrated sheer guts and determination in insisting on carrying that torch.

He did not deserve the comments that you made.

Please re-read all my posts on this thread and you will see I did not state in any way, shape or form that this man was not a hero - what I did state was that I am not sure every soldier killed is a hero and I stand by that comment. Are they brave? They are tremendously brave and I applaud their efforts.

Liability? Again I did not say he was a liability, I pointed out that the presence of the UK armed forces in Afghanistan more than likely increases the risk of attack on mainland UK soil - do you disagree? Regardless of whether you agree with this or not, this is my opinion, yes it's a political one, but I exercise my right in a free democratic society to air this opinion. I don't see how this can be interpreted into the opinion I have no respect for the armed forces.

Yes I've seen the video and I agree he is a very courageous man and I have the utmost respect for him, all soldiers know the risks when they sign up but it's still very sad to see the end result of war.

As for the 'he did not deserve the comments you made about him' - what comment was that exactly Les? What comment have I made against him personally?

You're a great poster on this site Les, despite not knowing you personally I have a lot of respect for you and enjoy reading your contributions but in this instance I think you need to step back a little and try to read other posters contributions in the context they were made and not be so quick to judge.

i posted this to show what i feel about this para...not to start people argueing.everyone has their opinion and this is a forum so has the right to express it.
the problem nowadays is that the word hero is everywhere from footballers to actors/celebs etc and most of it not deserved but that is the world we live in.we are called to go above and beyond our duty when on tour and in my eyes anyone who puts their kit on and steps out of a fob/pb deserves the upmost respect as its the scariest thing you can probably do as a soldier.we are not heros, just doing a ****ty job and looking after each other and trying to get everyone home in one piece.

He's done a couple of tours and has come back in one piece each time so he can crack more
heads and i dare say he only joined up so he could get paid to shoot people. Would he be a hero if he got taken out by an IED? No - it would be the best thing to happen to the ****. There are Heros in the forces but you can be damn sure that this particular character is by no stretch - unique! So there you go Tosser
So we were bullied at school were we, get a grip and grow some *****, lightweight. Lol.

If he had wanted to crack my head then i'm damn sure he could of - i wasn't on his hit list so as a result - was not a bully victim. What's your point?????
