Arn't these problems avoided when you buy new

Certainty, buy new

Cheaper, buy second hand, and take the risk

Buying second hand is a gamble

This was a stop gap projector until I bought a new Epson as I wanted something to cheap and cheerful to run whilst setting up the room....hasn't really worked out so well, as I have a brand new sofa, brand new projector screen and when I sit on my new sofa and watch my new projector screen there is **** all onit.

Well emails/PM's all ignored even though I know he has read them. He uses avforums and is on it daily, I have PM'd one last time and will wait to see what happens. The fact that he has ignored me rather than say sorry mate, sold as seen makes me believe he knew that it was on the way out which actually angers me.

I took the bulb out of it last night and its certainly doesn't look great, compared to the apparently original "failed" bulb. Infact if I was a betting man, I'd say the bulb in it at the moment was the original bulb that was on its way out and was replaced before it died completely(if that makes sense) It also isn't a genuine bulb which I have found out after checking the serial number it.

I doubt I'll see my money back but I can certainly guarantee with the information I have on the chap, he'll be having some very annoying evenings/nights soon.

What a lot of energy you're spending on this.

Didn't has advert state clearly that it was a genuine Sanyo lamp? If so then he has clearly misled you. The lifetime is difficult with these lamps because they can vary so much and Sanyo don't even quote an expected lifetime unlike most of the other manufacturers. A quick Google shows reports of lifetimes varying from <1000 hours to >2000, so it sounds like he was lucky with his first lamp if it really did last 3700 hours. A lot depends on whether you have the projector on full power and whether you keep the filters clean.
