I very rarely use the spray but give it a push on occasions when I see high charge temps in traffic (I have a charge temp. probe in the IC/Throttle joiner) Once you start moving the temp. comes down anyway. Recently, having used it as above I monitored the charge temp. - no apparent change! Pretty ineffective, I thought. I checked and found the jet was blocked! woes of living in a hard water area here in the south east. I must remember to collect the water next time the wife de-frosts the fridge or freezer!

How would a stupid person that knows nothing about circuits and sensors and stuff make it automatic. Is there a guide for stupid people like me anywhere.

I always use de-ionized water in mine as i also live in a hard water area. I buy it in gallon bottles from in-excess for about £1.50 .
I don't think the water will lower temps if your stationary as the water is not that cold. I think its the fast moving air over the damp IC that causes the air conditioning effect that does the cooling. I've seen a car that had a tubular rail over the top of the IC with several holes in it. Instead of water this sprayed Nitrous over the IC to lower charge temps. I bet its very effective but expensive for road use.

This is the guide I used to fit my identical to this system into my V3.

http://www.type-ra.co.uk/subaru-foru...-a-dry-classic

Hope this is ok with the mods?

The timer works very well.

I use mine more when I've been parked up to bring the temps down quicker.

Could you elaborate on what extra hardware is needed for the auto feature?
Thanks

Mine just sprays automatically at variable intervals on a timer. So handy in traffic or on a bit of a blast etc. Ideally a system that sprays based on boost, rpm, injector duty cycle etc. Is best but takes more effort.

I think a variable interval timer would be great as long as the switching in the car's cabin looks factory fitted. Could you have the stock switch act as an on/off and maybe a small wheel switch fitted to the blank?

Yeah keeping a good stock look was important to me too. Original switch still there and works as intended. Extra switch and variable pot on steering column cowl ( easily replaced if want to go back to 100% stock ) and not seen unless looking hard.

This is the only pic Ive got at the moment, can try to take some more at the weekend

Does a UK Sti have a separate water container for the I/C or does it use the one for the windscreen?

Do you have any photos of the associated hardware and where did you buy it from?

Here is a quick guide to the circuit I used.
  1. Buy and build this kit, but swap out the pause pot for a panel mount item ( if you want variable pause, if not then build as purchsed ) Velleman Timer
  2. Wire in a switched 12v feed to the timer.
  3. Piggyback the 12v to one side of the relay output
  4. Wire the other side of the relay output to the switched side of the manual switch.
  5. Setup puse pot if not using seperate pot
  6. Job done, have a beer and relax.

I used these nozzles, bought them online from somewhere in UK but cant find them now and lost the original email.
http://www.orbitonline.com/products/...s/04/13/01/54/

Bought some straight 4mm barb hose joiners, cut one end off and screw in the misting nozzles.

Plumb in with T peices etc. and misting intercooler spray all done

Hope this helps

They have a separate bottle in the boot. Unlike the spec C bottle these are smaller and situated behind the trim panel behind the drivers side rear wing.
Only clean water is to be used so the washer bottle is a no go. I only use de-ionized water in mine.

Thanks for this DT-SPD.

Could someone take a photo of the bottle and where it is located in the boot?

I am interested in retro fitting this in my FSTi, so I guess I need all the standard Impreza Sti hardware and switch plus the Velleman timer circuit as above?

I've got 2x20 minute track sessions next week, if I put some shredded ice cubes on the TMIC could this cause any problems?

I remember someone saying was doing this and posted a photo but I can't find it!

Try to pick up a bottle off a jdm as its on the bulkhead under the bonnet, saves changing boot trim sides and carpet then, as well as making pipe work easier to route.

Ok, so clearly having an I/C waterspray has it's advantages. So why didn't Subaru make this automatic spraying from the factory incorporating the ready built in "I/C waterspray low" function?

It's manual on my 07/07 Spec D, and was on my 04/54 WRX STi blob when I had it.

Do the Litchfields have a massive I/C tank in the boot behind the back of the rear seats?

I seem to recall a program about 5 years ago showing it?

JDM bottles are under the bonnet?? That's not a good place to put it as the water will get heated from the under bonnet temperature, that's why mine is in the boot.

I thought it was the JDM Spec C's that have them bolted to the rear seats in the boot!

I think they hold 12 litres.
How does this compare to the UK STi's water bottle?
