I bought a Nexus 7 16gb this afternoon from my local Tesco, £194 as they had a promotion on (ok only £5 off but better than nothing).

I haven't had a chance to even unpack it yet and I don't really think it will compete with the iPad 2 I have, but I have bought it to browse the net, read emails and as a ebook reader as well.

I love my iPad but one of it's biggest strengths is also it's big weakness, as the screen is quite large it's not really that easy to 'handle' as in one handed whilst your other hand is doing something else.

Well having had the Nexus 7 in use for two days now I have to say what a great tablet it is, I can't recommend it highly enough. Fantastic value for money, you won't be disappointed.

I have had a Nexus7 for a few weeks now. I love if for reading books, videos, browsing internet, emails etc. I even play games on it which I never did before. The quad core processor flies with no lag in performance. I get at least 10 hours of use between charges, so easily lasts all day.

I missed flash support so I just download flash apk and use firefox which still supports flash. The screen is excellent, the weight is vey light. What ever device I'm browsing on my bookmarks are saved on the Nexus7 aswell.

Dont pay extra to have 3g data, just get a wifi version and on the rare occasion that you cant access a wifi network just tether your Nexus7 to your phone for internet-
Nexus 7 = Excellent

Hmm, another netbook or a nexus 7? I'll have to get a case/stand with a keyboard for the nexus anyway, so I just can't see the point when you can get one of these:

I'm thinking the better option now is a Galaxy Tab 2 7" - you can fire in a memory card to expand the storage.

Wonder how much difference you'd be missing with the Galaxy tab's screen resolution

Well where do I start, the battery life Is dire compared to a tablet, boot up times , it will run windows, it's outdated technology which tablets filled the gap between phone and laptop/pc.

For a light Internet user a tablet is perfect for most.

I only use myacbook pro now for photo editing .

They were a fad whist people were saying the iPad was a fad. Lots of people bought them before they realised how good the iPad is.

My Asus netbook boots up in around 20 seconds from being shutdown, or immediately if in sleep mode. Battery last 7-8 hours easy. Plus (and this is the best bit) it has a real keyboard! Why would browsing on a tablet be so much better than the netbook? I respect your opinion, but it is wrong.

Had my Nexus 7 for nearly 2 weeks now, loving it really is a nice peice of kit, if you want to add more functions (external storage etc) then you have to root it, and flash isnt supported on Jelly Bean, but does everything ive thrown at it beautifully which is what I wanted.

Not wanting to sound all fanboy like, but if you can wait until 10th - 18th October, it is when the rumoured iPad Mini is to be announced. It is said to be 7.85", so a little larger than the other 7" tablets, but smaller than the regular iPad.

If you don't like iOS / Apple then it probably still won't appeal, and of course the pricing has to be pretty spot on, but considering the margins Apple has on the iPad, they could decide to slightly reduce their margin to give a more competitive price compared to the other 7" tablets.

It will be interesting to see what they price the ipad mini at if indeed the rumours are true. My old ipad would have seen a lot more use if it was a 7" and it could fit in my car glovebox.

I'd heard invites go out Oct 10th, event to be on Oct 17th, pre-orders Oct 19th, release Oct 26th.

I'd also take a guess the iPod Touch 5G will be released around those dates as well, as it's release date was simply given as October.

Sorry to hijack slightly but I have never really been interested in a tablet but some good prices around and me and the wife do spend a fair bit of time of an evening on the sofa with our phones so the big screen would be useful. Ipad makes sense as we both have iphones so would all be in synch. I just assumed that you would be able to have an individual login where all your settings are kept and apps etc installed as you want them. I did a quick search and it seems this is not possible – only one account configurable? Is there an easy way around this as otherwise what do you do for say facebook other than login & out every time you go in? Same for games etc where you want to compare top scores, have made different progress. I assume there is no option to install 2 instances of an app like FB?

Nope, there isn't a concept of "users" on iOS devices. If you're logged into the built in facebook app, then whomever else uses the device will be logged into your account too.

That does make for an interesting suggestion though, cannot be too difficult to implement a true multi user setup.

Apple TV has just had multiple iTunes accounts enabled. Perhaps they're testing it on the TV for later inclusion on other devices.

Its not the end of the world just something I took for granted would be standard especially when I have friends all sharing ipads with their other halfs.

FB was just the obvious one but if you say downloaded a particular game app and wanted to keep your progress seperate you couldn't.

Hopefully they sort it out as surely must be easy enough to do it by your itunes/icloud account details?

Anyway will wait and see what comes of this ipad mini before I make my mind up.

This ones a never ending discussion I guess but for me it had to have very good TV integration so I chose the iPad as it seems If you want to use the Tv as well there is absolutely no contest. Get an iPad then add Apple TV and the airvideo app and your away, NOTHING can touch it.
Apple (United Kingdom) - Apple TV - HD iTunes content, Netflix, & more on your TV.
&
http://www.inmethod.com/air-video/in...38019E6F0ABD61

This combo will let you view anything thats on the iPad screen, on the TV and it also allows you to stream anything from iTunes to the TV as well as youtube.
I use this to stream downloaded 1080P movies from my PC to the iPad, iPhone and Plasma and its absolutely flawless.

As an aside, whatever you buy, if you have SKY TV at home, make sure you get the SkyApps as some of them really are very impressive.

I watch movies on SkyGo when I am on the road and stuck in a hotel.
Sky Go for iPhone, iPod touch and iPad on the iTunes App Store

And the planner is so much easier to use on the iPad at home than the TV itself its unreal.
Sky+ for iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPhone 4S, iPhone 5, iPod touch (3rd generation), iPod touch (4th generation), iPod touch (5th generation) and iPad on the iTunes App Store

They are both very slick indeed.
Sky apps - Make the most of Sky
