The great mapping rip off

Toneh....You are being confrontational for the sake of it now. Why are you being such an ****??
This subject has already been done to death and the people paying for an OS remap know what they are paying for already, and that's to have it done for them.
What tuners charge to effect a remap is between them and the customer and has **** all to do with you or anyone else. If the customer is happy to pay then fair enough. Nothing wrong with that whatsoever.
If you want to DIY then good for you, but don't berate OS tuners for using their skils, experience and valuable time for financial gain. That's the name of the game regardless of what software mapping tools you use, OS, EcuTek or Cobb come to that whether you pay for the tools or not.
As long as OS mappers are playing the OS game and contributing/donating for the pleasure of everyone is happy including the OS originators and community...But not you that is!!
Leave it alone and carry on with what you're doing, never mind what anyone else is doing otherwise you're just going to make yourself look a complete ****!! You said your bit ages ago and were given quality responses so why carry it on.
You'll be the first one to say thanks very much if a tuner jumps in and offers you some technical resource free of charge to a mapping problem you're struggling with so why this bull****.
You bored or something??

If you don't like it mate don't read don't post and don't get involved
And if you've not guessed by Now I couldn't care less how I look or what is said to or about me
At a guess you're an open source mapper or planning to be And make a few quid
Seems to have touched a nerve ?

I'd like to answer that with a question.
If general vehicle repair garages and specialist garages are charging between £65-£100 p/h just to fix or fit bits to your P&J, regardless of tools used, what hourly rate do you think tuners should be charging for providing their specialist mapping/tuning expertise regardless of tools used.

Like its been said you get a dog with maf scale ect all to **** and it's more involved And you have more work
But the trend is there is generally a set figure ,That covers all eventualitys , IMHO an hourly rate would seem fair
If you're cars a pain you pay more
If all is good and it's a smooth flash you pay less
A regular mapper would have a better idea of a reasonable and viable hourly Rate

Your replies though do show a high degree of ignorance and the real intentions behind your resurrecting this thread.
You clearly still have a very big bee in your bonnet going back to your first raging bull post on this thread, and you clearly aren't going to stop posting such diatribe until said bee stings you. Good luck!!

For ecutek was to pay ecutek , proven roms , support ect
This cost does not exist with o/s
So why is the cost the same if it takes the same amount of labour ?

You DIY map and will never use a tuner again so what is the feckin problem?? Get a life man!!

No nerves touched whatsoever because the only person that's going to be affected by your words will ultimately be yourself.

In which case just let OS mappers get on with charging what they want, people will either pay it or they won't. It's got nothing to do with you nor should you care. The people paying don't care and are more than happy to pay, they just want their cars mapped by someone that will do a good job of it regardless of software tools used.

I think that statement sums it up

Maybe you should be asking why you pay so much more for ecutec when the OS maps have been proved as just as good for years now. Fundamentally they do the same thing and at the end of the day your STILL down to the skills and experience of your mapper to set your car up properly and reliably.
For the record, Duncan OS mapped my car a year and a half ago. Has not missed a beat and I've been happy as Larry. I paid for duncans experience and support. Money well spent.

And may I add putting the skills of mappers in question is not at all what this thread is about , never was , never will be

Tbf you had done yourself no favours on rr thread, abusing and accusing before said mapper had his say and to say people on snet are cursing to the job that was done and their cars was in garages being mended when they are no posts on here that I have seen to them extents, still waiting for youre reply on that question on other thread
A supposedly respected and well known tuner dishonestly rips-off someone elses work, passes it on as their own and as something completely different, lets face it purely for financial gain at the end of the day, what else, and finally admits what he's done after it all comes out in the open. Lets face it he couldn't really deny it after that could he!!
The really sad thing is a handful of you already using him practically give him a pat on the back for doing so because he owned up to it. **** me sideways the world has finally gone mad!!
Anyone carrying out the above dishonest actions should be exposed and severely berated, and they should feel genuinely ashamed of what they've done. I said what said right at the beginning because i already knew what was going on, and he goes and admits it all afterwards anyway in public. Anyone doing this is a Scumbag and no better than a Rogue Trader!! It's an awful thing to do, period.
I'm obviously missing something somewhere...It must be something to do with the amount of gibberish being posted on this thread.
Some of you really are a piece of work!!

And was you involved in the making of the software?
Car bibbles has spoken to andy and he's accepted or maybe not but you're still going on and belive no one, no matter what is said.
I'm on no mappers side right or wrong they know if they have done wrong or not and they will have to live with the guilt.
The only gripe I have with all this is, is that people was mocking this software that you know is good and turns out commercial mappers are using the same!
Are you a mapper?
#771
Yep, Duncan did initial map on mine on road then tweaked on rolling road and then re-checked it was ok on the road after.
My 06 wrx made 334bhp and 381lb/ft which is what we expected at 1.35 bar boost on my second hand turbo. Rich at FB Tuning has since driven it and checked the map after I had some other bits fitted and said it was all spot on still. Trust Duncan and Rich 100% always have.

Sorry the question was aimed at Toneh`s DIY mapping

If so manifold is now reversed , meth/water is on a few more tweaks
And nearly ready for the big day lol
I've pmd stu a few times @ Motorsport developments
So I'm gonna be taking a run up there ( nice and impartial run )
Probably be shortly after crimbo now

Logically speaking, feature for feature, you would have assumed that whatever the EcuTEK solution was, OS would be at least £150 cheaper (the EcuTEK licence fee). Is this not the case in your insinuation? If it's not then I would use my right and not even comtemplate that solution.

However, not dishonestly, not at the cost of anyone's reputation, especially ones own, and not without singing the praises of and giving due acknowledgement and respect to those good folks over at RR that have spent much time, energy much head scratching to bring OS to the masses, private or commercial. In this case Carberry.

I'm all for financial gain and if you're willing to pay what someone is charging for something all well and good regardless if people say something is too expensive. Obviously not for the person who's paying for it otherwise they wouldn't pay would they??!! I've no problems with that at all.

P.s who are the people that had issues with the map also??? As you stated clearly on rr
And are you a mapper I ask again?

Interesting thread
And I have some sympathy with Toneh's POV, I get the same irritation dealing with plumbers – who seem to make out their profession is akin snake charming/rocket science
after a whinge to my father in law re the prices they charge etc, he said he had just had a plumber around to do a small job under the kitchen sink
queue plumber coming round to have a look, with much sucking of breath, tut tutting and gentle nodding of head he turned to my father in law and said
“who did this lot then?”
My father in law replied – “you did, 4 years ago”
Any profession has a tendency to mystify their job, I am sure mappers are no exception - but no doubt at the cutting edge experience does count
