Had the same thing happen with my current Spec C, private plate had been on a car that was written off about 18 months before it got put on the car, unfortunately the system is so daft that the old write offs follow the car if the plate has ever been on it, and since it was another import impreza it looked suspicious. The black mark isnt removed, even after the private reg is taken off! and there is seemingly no way to get them removed!
For people that dont understand how it works it will always follow the car and things like this can happen.
I did mine with RAC, used some common sense (since I had a good gut feeling about the seller) and gave them a call to find out. They couldnt do anything about it but explained and that was enough for me.
Good luck with the sale, and if it does turn out to be clean I hope it makes people think a bit before writing a lot.

Thanks I didn't realise a bad history on a previous plate can give the current reg a bad feedback. I can't remove what happend in 2008 as I wasn't the owner. I would like to know why when I 1st checked it out it was all good ? Today it's all good on current plate. Not on previous p plate though.

It looks a lovely car in a desirable colour and low tax band, if you HPI'd it when you bought it, dont you have some sort of cover now to claim?

Not all the HPI companies report everything even if it is present in the report database. When I was in touch with RAC they said they had a policy to show everything and that it was up to the buyer to make their own mind up.
Depends who did the report and what they choose to display, best give them a call and see what they say if you really are interested in the car.

Crazy system as it can put people off buying a perfectly good car for no reason, as with this. I have known this car for a couple of years now, first when Rob owned it and now with Nige and its been to alot of our local meets. If I was looking to buy another hawk I wouldn't think twice. Its been sensibly modded and has a good map. Hope you get it sold soon Nige.

As I understood it when I checked myself, the database is complete but its up to the company themselves to display what they want. HPI Check and RAC (Who buy their checks directly from HPI Check) show everything thats in the database on the car. For example on my car it showed up as having current outstanding finance (on a Mercedes) which was a car that the private plate had been moved to, and the write off on an impreza that had had the plate previously.

If the reg wasn't on the car when the Cat D event happened I wouldn't expect it to show up.
No wonder this forum has such a poor reputation if this is the basic approach people take.
I await the , "what the **** do you know you've only joined recently" comments, but can't see it's relevance.
Someone will get a decent car out of this, so that's the main thing for me.
Best of luck Nige... maybe stick to forums with normal folk in future.

Your so funny NOT
I now have a print out showing my car as all clear. However a p-plate had been on a previous Impreza that was on vcar cat d. Then put to my car. It's a reall shame that some people on this forum want to take the pee. Or slate a car or the person before they really know the full story. I want this car to go to another enthusiast as I know it's a good one. Why the admin or mods don't get a bit more involved in cases like this I will never know. Admin/mods You have just witnessed a persons honesty & a clean car being slated. You did nothing so you
