I pick up after ours unless "Its in the rough", i.e. I cant find it but 95 percent get bagged and disposed of in a bin, it is amazing what you get away with walking with a dog, people think it is perfectly ok to walk round with a bag of fresh turd, if you dont have a Dog and are walking round with a Tesco bag with your own poo in it, you get sectioned.

I dont understand the ide of bagging it and then attaching it to a tree, I would rather tak my chances with unbagged ones on the floor as they blend in wheras bright blue bags festooning a tree dont exactly look natrual, there is someone locally who launches them into someones hedge on the road near the common, I would set up a CCTV and catch the ******, then give them all their crap back in solution via a super soaker.

I must admit to not putting one bag o ****e in a big, it got dropped on an Audi A5 that was totally blocking the pavement on a blind bend as this ignorant **** round the corner is apt to do, not seen it parked like that since....

I always pick up after my dog unless it's in rough grass where I can't get to it or even find it. But, my girlfriend does exactly what you're asking about, so here's her answer.

She says that if it's near the start of a long walk and there's no bins, she'll always pick it up. But, rather than do the rest of the walk carrying the bag she'll tie it to a fence of tree to keep it out of the way - but she always ties it where it can't be obviously seen and isn't directly next to a public path. She then picks up the bag on the way back and will dispose of it properly in a bin. She's pretty fastidious about dog poo, so I've no doubt she always collects at the end.

Not saying that's the case for everyone, and I've seen bags hanging from trees that have been there for more than a few hours. I just tend to carry the bag with me double-wrapped.

There's no excuse for not cleaning up after your dog, especially in the town. I live near Eyemouth, and the amount of dog turds lying on the walkway at the beach-front is disgusting - especially when the local dog wardens hand-out bags for free and who are at various points throughout the region at set times to hand out these bags (always outside normal working hours too).

Where I live it's the status dog owning chavs, the hard b4stard wannabees can't be seen carrying a bag of dog poo now can they. The best one i've seen so far was a group of blokes walking 2 dobermans off their leads with their mouths strapped with a lot of masking tape and letting them run over to people without calling them back. I just ignored the dogs as i'm not intimidated by any pooch and they soon fcuked off to try and bother someone else. I actually felt sorry for the dogs having such moronic underclass owners.

There is no reason whatsoever I should be picking dog **** up when out in the **** end of know where, do you complain about fox **** as there is a lot more of that about where I walk my dogs, and trust me fox **** STINKS.

Seems to me that if your dog has a dump in a public place then not only should you be responsible enough to pick it up, but you should also take it away and discard it in a proper place.

Leaving it where it drops or chucking it into the bushes etc. is the action of a selfish person.

I bag it so the poo fairy doesn't get it on her hands, I hang it from trees so she doesn't have to bend to pick it up.

I have found the best approach rather than just shouting "Pick ya feckin dog crap up" is to just politely say " oh you seem to have forgot your bags, (whilst offering a spare ) I have have a spare" I've never had anyone refuse yet

You can pick it up though Luan. You can personally reduce the amount of dog ****e around by your actions. Are you happy for someone else to step in it, maybe someones kid, just because you are too lazy to pick up the mess you have deliberately left?

Fox ****e might be bad but it's presence is no logical oreason for you not to pick up your dogs crap.

On pavements, playing fields, parks, etc, yes for sure but I think Luan is talking about being out in the middle of nowhere where the likelihood of anyone stepping in it is slim to none.

i bet this argument is used by dog owners to justify not picking up dog **** but in reality "in the middle of nowhere" is not going to be 40 mile west of Inverness, or on top of the Brecon Beacons -- but just out of view on a public footpath or bridleway less than a 100 yards from the nearest house

Guaranteed in my experience, at the beginning on any country walk, just over the sty is a pile if dog **** left by owners who think they are "in the middle of nowhere"

There is the middle of nowhere and there is the middle of nowhere. Not many place in England are the middle of nowhere like they are in Australia. The woods next to your estate isn't really the middle of nowhere.

There's a significant difference between where people regularly walk and in most cases, it doesn't take very long to get from there to where extremely few people venture... but that's probably hard to see from your high horses.

Um, yes it is - unless you don't get the parallel with "the middle of nowhere" equating to somewhere far enough away that people seldom go there so the likelihood of somebody walking in exactly the same place that a dog has fowled is very small.

What you have mentioned is the start of a walk, which is not the same thing as Luan has described.

As I've said before, I actually don't care if people don't clear up after their dogs where it is out of the way and outside of built up areas. It just amuses me how holier than thou people can become.

I have no problem with dog **** left "in the middle of nowhere" -- i just bet my definition of it is not the same as dog owners who routinely leave their dogsh1t in the countryside.


where, as has been demonstrated on this thread people who use the countryside for walking and riding regularly come across it.

I live in the countryside and walk in it everyday. I rarely see anyone pick up after their dog and yet never step in dog faeces - hmm, I wonder if the problem has been blown out of all proportion for a change?

granted, in the grand scheme of things dog **** in the countryside (unlike in towns villages and cities) is not one of the major challanges in my life - and i live in the countryside too

but intensly irritating when you or your child steps in it nonetheless

Depending on where I am and whether there are bins about,I'll sometimes bag it and leave it somewhere that I remember,to pick it up on the return leg.I've not forgotten to retrieve any yet.
If there is a chance I won't return by the same route,I'll double bag it and put it into my rucksack and bin it or take it home if there aren't any bins.
In winter,I always put a bag o'sh!te in each pocket as handwarmers...

Even iof you do bag it and pick it up,I reckon it is inexcusable to leave it hanging from a bush or whatever.

It is only responsible to take it to a proper place to discard it,at home if necessary.

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) deemed pet waste a “nonpoint source of pollution” in 1991, which put dog ****e in the same category as oil and toxic chemicals. It's not 'just poo' therefore - not all poos are equal.

It is gross, there are some pepole where I live bagging it and leaving it in the middle of the pavement. Even if the bag is biodegradable the **** won't dissolve overnight. I can't understand litter. Cigarette paraphernalia and drink bottles (mainly Lucozade) for instance as well as the usual Macdonalds. Why do idiots throw cans and even bottles with a screw on lid out of car windows? Recycling blah etc.
