Surely this has to be deliberate self-parody? Either that, or Jack's fanboyism really has reached window-licker proportions

Somehow it is quite sad to be defined by a product

To have such emotional attachment, to project your whole life/persona through a phone/tablet/laptop etc etc

Samsung were dicks for copying Apples design but there has to be some allowance on technology and concept sharing otherwise you end up with a monopoly or a market full of white toasters (aka Apple products).

Apple have made some of the best consumer products out there, they deserve respect for that but as far as the products go there are much better options out there...again unfortunately they don't have the marketing clout and integration (apparently) that Apple does.

And everyone wants to shout "BANKER" to Siri at any given opportunity I am sure.

There is an allowance for sharing, but Samsung crossed the line. As for marketing, Samsung rule the roost there, anyone watch the Olympics? They even had a phone based section in the opening ceremoney, spoiled it.

That's right, all laptops have a qwerty keyboard with a folding screen thanks to Apple.

Apple had a massive home court advantage. The jurors, in this case all made up from people from Jobs back yard from Silicone Valley in a courthouse situated 10 miles away from Cupertino HQ. The jury has decided an awarded of $1bn to Apple but the ruling is still yet to be finalised, the presiding judge may see things differently, doubtful given the location of the courthouse but we'll have wait a few weeks before the final ruling. And then of course Samsung will not lie down and take it and will undoubtedly appeal any decision, these lawsuits will go on for a few more years.

Besides, Samsung can easily absorb the $1bn and will still continue to dominate the mobile market.

In this context stealing a great idea would be seeing a phone without a keyboard and making your own version, what Samsung did was see Apple's phone and willingly copied the design.

You're a fool if you can't see that.

Oh and Jon, nothing familiar here

Jesus, you just don't realise do you?

I hope they have patented it. Then again, being thin in America is hardly going to catch on is it?

Do you really believe that the designers of that top laptop finished then said... "we've done something original here, looks nothing like a Macbook"

Yes, but there are many cars that are much better and doesn't suffer from an inherently flawed design.

Absolutely. But there's smaller and slimmer and outright copying. At a glance looking at that Asus Laptop you would think it was a Macbook as was the case with the early Samsung phones and the Covin Porsche. That can't be a good thing can it?

Not thin, not light, looks like a MacBook.

http://www.engadget.com/2011/05/23/dell-xps-15z-review/

"Dell even stated that it would have an "innovative new form factor" of some sort.

The company neglected to mention it would look like a MacBook Pro."

I'm sure at a glance it does but there will be both surprise and delight and brand nuances features that differentiates it from Apple (and all of its competitors)...and isn’t imitation the greatest form of flattery? Not ideal from a commercial perspective but surely that will drive Apple to continue to innovate rather than resting on their laurels and relying on legal recourse to fill their coffers\advertise their brilliance?

Apple will of course continue on it's path of innovation and yes imitation is a form of flattery but there has to be a limit.

What people don't seem to realise is that Apple pursue far less legal cases than just about every major out there. Take a look one of the many 'who's suing who' infographics, you'll see more arrows pointing at Apple than from it. Google 'who do no evil' are probably still the most active.

So you are saying, more people are suing Apple because they are the bigger infringer of patents?
