I have zero brand loyalty so don't really care who sues who or how many times in all honesty; not a fan of Apple either really (although I own three iPods ); don't like their OS but I'm a Windows kid and MS has been putting food on the table since I qualified as an NT4 MCSE way back when so perhaps a little biased...just playing devils advocate really.

a very good friend is a top patent lawyer, has just successfully won/defended a patent infringement against Apple in the High Courts of London

clean sweep on all 4 patents

he was acting on behalf of HTC

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-18709232

http://www.thelawyer.com/freshfields...013285.article

Apple immediately issued a another series of writs, good for my friend, but a disaster for HTC

Apple can just keep shooting until they get a hit

Same here. I couldn't less what happens between the two parties.
I have always worked with Microsoft, however our company has started using iPhones and iPads. I don't care what I have to use as long as it does the job. But I will not pay silly amounts of money for a product because it is the latest fashion accessory.

Last week I was watching a cctv style crime program.
A women had her bag stolen off of her chair in a restaurant.
It contained an iPhone, an iPad and an iPod.

I'm sorry, but that really is sad. I bet she was using all three, on display before they were stolen.

Some people just cannot be seen without all the latest gadgets.
I was like that once......when I was 16.

I agree, all these latest gadgets from Samsung are just a fashion accessory.

Not biting. No need to when you are doing a fine job of making yourself look like a fool.

So funny. Apple make something, fashion accessory, Samsung copy those products... nothing wrong with that.

Did I say that Jack?
If so, where?

In my opinion, all these new smart phones are fashion accessories. It just seems that Apple customers seem to take things to the extreme. Spending more than 10 minutes in a queue for a new product seems unnecessary to me. But this is nothing for a lot Apple customers. How many people on here have spent over an hour queuing for an Apple?

As for it being a fashion accessory , hmmm, can you patent a garment of clothing?
Something to look into for Samsung I feel!

Ok, that last comment was a stretch, I know.

I understand that a lot of time and money goes into making these products. But a lot of the tech that goes into an iPhone isn't actually made by them is it?
How much of an iPhone 4 is actually made by Apple? How much of it is made by Samsung and other manufacturers? I might be way off, but I'd like to know the answer if it is in your possession Jack.

Is it IOS that is the main product that Apple makes?

spot on...its all fashion whichever way you look at it, just depends on which strap line you are gullible enough to buy into. This always makes me laugh

Im not saying either are perfect but going for a shape and patenting it for being rectangular... well considering you can take the back cover off the Samsung as you access the battery and micro SD/sim card that way, not really the same design is it?
Then you can look at the phones up to (and not the wonderful picture that apple supplies ) of what phones were looking like when the Iphone was released, not much in it except the iphone was bigger.
I do believe that Samsung have all the rights to appeal on this, but the US patents laws seem to really suck for basic designs, and I do love the bit where apple said that samsung copied their phone (symbol) design (which has been a universal symbol for the last 70+ years).

Tony

I'm guessing your following of the case was restricted to what you read on the BBc website Tony?

Shin Nishibori from Apple was asked to design an iphone as Sony would have made it. So he mocked up a design with Sony branding, which are the images on the BBC website. That's not a Sony design. Its an Apple designer's rendering of what Sony might have produced had they done so.

That's an entirely different thing in law. Not that you would expect the BBC to report accurately on that.

Sorry if this has already been raised, but I can't be arsed reading 5 pages of what probably amounts to rantings (pro Apple or anti Apple) written by people with zero understanding of intellectual property.

Yet the LG Prada looks amazingly similar to the iphone, yet it was released and announced before the iphone, so do you patent a rectangle and then enforce it by saying it if looks remotely rectangular they have copied your design?
Apple are taking the p155 really, but samsung are not 100% innocent either.

Anyway, roll on ios6, the new android release

So funny. "How much of it is made by Samsung and other manufacturers" Let's not forget who's the organ grinder in this relationship.

Samsung shares anyone?

I think there are two possibilities here Jack; you care too much about it or you are bored and just trolling. Threads are too consistent in content and your responses appear too emotive for the latter...go paragliding and clear your head

Paragliding for the last 6 years, pretty solidly. I still have the motor but rarely fly it.

Yup, clean break, new pinning technique apparently, only pain was not using all of my hand for six weeks, other than that quite a fun experience.

Well I'm glad you're ok and you've recovered I can only imagine how debilitating it must have been for you with one hand in a cast unable to hold your iPhone and iTab in one hand and not being able to swipe with the other.

Anyways, in light of Samsung losing the legal wrangle with Apple, I think Samsung will look to using Windows 8 OS on a lot more on future devices. There is no threat of litigation or patent infringement and because of this I think many more will follow suite. Nokia played a blinder here I think in partnering with Microsoft and now with the backing of the worlds largest smartphone manufacturer, this could really take off. Google with Android will really have to convince existing manufacturers that they will face no threat from Apple, either by changing the OS or by giving their backing should they face a writ from Apple. Google pretty much kept a low profile in the Samsung vs Apple case.

Samsung's Windows 8 devices look pretty good, hopefully Windows 8 will be too.
