His career in government has been reduced from 5 years to 2.5, including a significant loss of wages. There is little prospect of the lib dems getting into power again anytime soon. He had his private life splashed all over the media, and cannot go anywhere without being called a crook and a liar. I'd say thats a pretty high price, especially if what he did was mitigated by circumstances, which it would appear it was.
What are the mitigating reasons that you mention.

The reason we've been given is that he had to keep quiet his relationship with his lover by keeping up a charade of a landlord/lodger arrangement, for fear of being ostracised from his family. We've not been told why this is so, nor why he thought defrauding the public of £40k was a better option than being truthful to his family.

Well they seem reasonably clear to me and I have Googled it and remember most of the background from when it all blew up. I remember feeling very strongly that he had a right to prevent his parents from knowing the truth about his sexuality if that is what he wanted.

Your response to almost everything is 'show me the evidence right now' and it's a very immature form of debate in many regards. It works when some retard is spouting some rubbish that his equally retarded mate told him down the pub, but not the rest of the time.
You demand every statement is backed by a reference, yet you offer no such references yourself.
Only David Laws will know exactly went on. You or I will only know what we read and then it is up to us to form an educated opinion. I know deep down you feel that only you are suitably equipped to be able to do this, and that is why your posts often come across as patronising.
My opinion is that Mr Laws was dishonest and acted fraudulently for financial gain. All so called mitigating facts are just excuses.
I will now adopt your form of debate. So if you disagree with me then please reference the facts that back up your argument. But only proven facts, no speculation please
