As usual, Apple users more interested about visuals than anything else. Doesn't matter how it works or what it provides, just as long as it looks good. Typically it's more style over substance from Apple again.

Just did some research. 3D blocks have been available and Google Earth can show 3D buildings, same as iOS. But this is navigation is between 3D Satellite images, names and route on the road. Come on, give Apple some credit, it won't hurt.

Yes there will be a lot of catching up to do, but it's not like starting from scratch, progress will be rapid. Just this week a whole lot of the UK has been updated and I expect the updates will be regular. The benefit is kicking an advertising company off your phone, they didn't put the effort into improving their iOS product so Apple are going to show them how it's done.

So I'm in the Apple store with a mate, he's collecting his iMac, free HD and Superdrive replacement, as we're walking in one of the sales assistants of course asks if we need help, I say "My friend is here to camp out for the iPhone 5, he has his sleeping bag in the iMac box" he takes me fully seriously, was quite excited actually.

I don't know whether to laugh or cry.
As for the maps comment - FAIL!

You say give Apple some credit, how about you do the same with Android?
Or better yet, just shut the hell up as nobody with an ounce of common sense, really cares.

The new A6 does seem impressive, looks to be faster than a S4 Pro Krait at sunspider, not sure how it will compare with the other benchmarks though, we'll have to wait and see.

More benchmark results:

http://blog.gsmarena.com/we-run-geek...gh-end-droids/

Benchmarks don't really mean that much. Different sites report different results, and even with my old phone I get a different result each time I run the test.

Just for a comparison, my old Desire HD, currently running ICS, gets almost as much as an iPhone 4S. I'll flash JB soon and see what difference it makes:

because it has to unpack the download and install it which will take more than the estimated download size... I have the same problem with my daughters phone, just remove some photos, videos and music and then put them back when its done!

Once you switch onto satelite view they all look like that. That look is actually more annoying when you are trying to navigate to somewhere.

Both is better. The 3D maps really are a new deal, I don't think people fully understand what's occurring. I didn't think streetview from Google could be trumped, but I was wrong.

There's a nice iPhone 5 feature on Watchdog on now.

Matt Allwright has to get about on his own now.

out of interest do you have your tom tom navigation maps in 2D or 3D

i just find 2D much much better at delivering the needed information to my brain - 3D is unnecessarily confusing

my wife sometimes changes it to 3D -- that's until she feels the back of my hand (rings off of course, don't want to damage the paintwork)

3D on the TomTom but it's hardly 3D, just slanted a bit. And that's the point for me, I want more than you can fit on a tiny screen, I want a view to the horizon. It augments my driving experience.

I have no idea what that experience will be like with 3D Photo realistic buildings and real roads with the cars and people rubbed out, maybe that will be too much for me.

Check out the Olympic Village, come back, switch to standard or hybrid maps and zoom in. Ask Siri for directions home.

New maps are crap. Georeferencing is truly awful. Roads misplaced, landmarks n many cases over 300m misplaced against GPS. Very poor.

Sure, 3D looks nice.

Is that the whole world or just your house? I'd complain if I was you, or use Openstreetmap and add my own ****.

Here's a Panorama from earlier to cheer you up.
