Peter, go to Settings iMessage and make sure it's how you want it to be, chances are your reply to address is your email address. I have no idea what you're taking about regarding bluetooth.

No doubt he would have worked it out for himself, it was a simple config error.

Look on the bright side, he's now set up to use iMessage, have I mentioned the benefits of iMessage? Just incredible, as of last night my Macbook and my iPad receives messages sent to my iPhone mobile number… Free!! That might mean nothing to you, but give it a few years and you'll also appreciate such a service.

Apple maps are an abomination. Although great as sat nav, they are shocking if you are driving from A -B in your car ( and dont want to know where other stuff is). Even worse, all apps that used Google Maps will now use Apple maps as its an API.

iOS6 is great. But maps is the worse thing apple have ever come out with.

This might help you understand the switch to in house mapping. Hold on tight and focus on the positive aspects, it'll be worth it.

I actually don't care why companies may or may not be ditching google maps. The fact is, that Apple maps have a level of detail the is pretty much the same as Google Maps was 5 years ago. Its absolutely dreadful.

I did a seach on "25 bank street, London". Didn't find it, then I had to drop the "25" and it found it. Then I put it in 3D mode. "wow, amazing!!!". Then I put in my post code and got a blurry mess and had to zoom out to a ridiculously small scale to get anything resembling a picture.

Apple maps may be the best thing ever in 2 years, but why on earth did they not wait until they had at least a functional replacement?

Obviously people such as yourself will feel slightly let down by not being able to see your dog in the back garden right now. But, you need to take a longer term view, I see parity in 18 months time.

Jack, 228 posts on a thread of 734.

Said it before and i'll say it again, i honestly hope you find contentment in the period of your life after your obsession and devotion to the Apple brand has subsided. I don't think i've seen anything like it before, even from somebody paid to champion a brand. I don't know whether to be impressed, saddened or worried.

Is a far fvcking cry from "seeing my dog in my back garden". Please explain what positives I can draw from that?

It's Apple that need to take th elonger term view, not me. If it's going to take 18 months for parity, then release the fvcking update in 18 months and swallow the pain! Don't make me as a customer swallow it!

yes, they are trying to rely less on google as they can because of the amount of competitive overlap that the two companies now have. Hence maps, youtube etc all changing

Lol that was very well put together. The thing is all these ads and arguments from fans of other fans just ramps up apple awareness that notch further. Good/Bad everyone is talking about it - especially you droid users who just cant seem to keep away from this thread

Why don't you just go to http://map.google.com if you want to see satellite imagery, it's not all that useful in day to day life so no great loss, your area will eventually appear but the world is a big place.

Switch to Standard maps if you need to see important stuff in iOS Maps, like roads.

Jack. You know full well the 2D maps are broken too. Don't make me post up 2D mistakes. The turn by turn spoken navigation works great. But the actual maps are dog****.

It works great, I'm not sure what you're talking about. Admittedly it's not the same, but it's working great for me, I've used maps far more in iOS6 than I did previously and it's been a pleasure.

I think you need to take a good look at what you were using maps for previously before you realise the gain you've received with iOS6.

What's the problem? It shows exactly where you are.. at the bottom left of a white blob, near some greyish blob not too far from a large blue blob.. ?

They're definitely not broken, I've made a few journeys now and they worked perfectly. Now if by broken you mean look different or contain a different database to Google then that's obvious, you surely don't think that Google Maps data is without mistake?

And once again. http://maps.google.com if you miss the look, feel and don't mind adverts.

No, by broken I mean places not appearing at all, or being in completely the wrong place.

Course Google Maps has mistakes as well. But it does sort of have things generally in the right place.

I'll post up some pics later on. Maybe I'll do a few comparison shots.

Don't bother Pete, with as many users as iOS 6 has there will be a lot of people like you who feel hard done by, they'll all post screenshots. The best thing to do is contribute, there's a report a problem button on the maps selection screen. They'll appreciate your errors more than readers on here.

Have you tried maps.google.com yet, it's everything you think you've lost.

It looks more like very inaccurate data to me, rather than "broken". The maps themselves appear to work fine, just the data that it shows is poor. For example,

From: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-19659736
Among the user complaints regarding Apple's maps sent to the BBC were:
  • Some towns appear to be missing, such as Stratford-upon-Avon and Solihull.
  • Others, like Uckfield in East Sussex, are in the wrong location.
  • A search for Manchester United Football Club directs users to Sale United Football Club, a community team for ages five and above.
  • Users also reported missing local places, such as schools, or strange locations.
From: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/technolog...-Maps-app.html

  • The Telegraph's review of iOS6 earlier this week noted that Crofton Park train station in south east London is completely missing from the new Maps app.
  • Apple managed to find a new airport in South Dublin, Ireland. We're delighted as we never noticed it before.
  • Motorway junction numbers are also missing - kind of vital if you are giving someone directions using the app.
  • iOS 6 maps gripe #2: ‘F. Chamberlain and Son’, the greengrocers shown just next door to our offices, actually closed 15 years ago.
  • iOS 6 maps gripe #3: the Coventry Arms, a local pub, is shown on completely the wrong street. It's been there *decades*.
So I don't think the maps are broken per se, it's just that things such as missing towns, local places, junction numbers and incorrect locations make the experience not as good as it previously was.

Once they sort out the data issues I'm sure it will be great, but you would expect that this would have been addressed prior to a global release.
