Sure the photos do look better, but I could take some pictures myself on two phones and easily make either phone look better.
I.e. not a scientific comparison.
Biggest concern on the iPhone is the purple fringing issue with highlights. There was the same issue on the HTC Magic but that was fixed with a software update, so hopefully iOS6.1 will solve the issue.
Either way, I'm still not impressed by any camera on a phone. The day a camera in a phone can cover 95%+ of my photography needs, then I will consider it. Otherwise it's just some other feature that bumps up the price.

Not impressed. Really! That's shocking from someone with such high photography needs. iPhone or not phone cameras are incredible. SLR's had to catch up with the video for a while.
What matters in that test is how they look when published straight from the camera, with an incidental'ish shot, not in a studio, and the iPhone won hands down. That's what people do.

* Apple maps
* Scratches out of the box
* Durability of the anodisation
* Purple hazed pictures
* Unresolved WiFi issues
* No Lightning adapter included
* No Youtube app
* Phone rattle
* Light bleed
* Incorrect weather reports from Siri
* Static lines on screen keyboard
* Too thin and too light!!
* Poor battery life
* 'No SIM card installed' error
* Stuck USB cables
* Still not as fast as quad core S3
And this, to quote Apple themselves, "took our best thinking to build iPhone 5"

They can afford to fix any one of those issues on the off chance you experience any one of them, no one experienced all of them as Jon would have you believe. The only one I've seen in person is 'No Youtube App' and I downloaded that for her.

Absolutely I know it. I think Jon knows that next to no iPhones will experience any of those problem, but the media and it's troop of cut and pasters will not present the information that way.

Looks like Nokia have spent some time getting the camera right on the new 920:

Wonder what windows phone 8 will be like to use though.

I think most will admit that the iPhone is a great phone. However most will also admit that it has it's faults. Maybe these faults will be rectified but you can't help it that people may expect more for the sums of money involved.
But jack, I think people would take you a lot more seriously if you took the blinkers off and admitted that certain other phones do something's better.
Whoever took those s3 photos must have the setting wrong as the quality looks rubbish to the real life examples I've seen

"spoken to a few mates" who spoke to a few mates who read something online. Surely you can see that the issues, and no major launch of an OS is without issues, are blown up by the press because you only have to say 'Apple' to get interest and everyone loves a bit of negative news.
And why would I highlight features of another phone when this is a thread about Apple products, bringing up 'android is better' bullet points is already covered by the army of Fandroids. Just for you, the Galaxy S3 is better at running Android and has a lovely large screen. Now do you feel better?

Pop over to any one of the many Apple forums, some are minor but a lot are major issues for some, you'll find thousands of fanboys experiencing at least one or more of the issues bullet pointed.

You're right Jon, there may well be thousands of people experiencing a 'problem', but they sold six million iPhones in the first week. It's all a bit obvious to me especially when half of your list of 'problems' are not problems at all.

OK I'll add a little more bait.
* Apple maps - They're great, really great. And I can still use Google Maps.
* Durability of the anodisation - No different to any other anodised product, but Apple will replace.
* Purple hazed pictures - This shouldn't really be on this list.
* No Lightning adapter included - Yes there is, it has USB on the other end.
* No Youtube app - Download from the App store, it's alright, but Google could do better.
* Light bleed - Unfortunate, affects all devices, Apple will replace no fuss.
* Poor battery life - Oh please, Battery life is exceptional.
* Still not as fast as quad core S3 - At what exactly?
