All the **** that is blown out from the rockercovers/crank case is caught in the can rather than blown back through the system. This will stop the build up of oil etc in your intercooler pipe work. You've seen first hand what's in your intercooler pipes and all that is being blown back into your inlet manifold through your throttle body.
With the can fitted you can catch all that moisture/oil/sludge and tip it away as and when it builds up.

In simple terms....

Thanks for the reply As said, Tommy has PM'd me a while ago and we're now in the process of sorting it so we should have some fitting instructions in the next few weeks thanks to Tommy!
Thank you for suggesting that though, very kind of you!
P.S I like your name for Peterborough, it works well!

I can supply the 3 port catch tank but not as a kit. It's something we are looking at doing very soon though.

Yep agreed, the breather pipes take different routes on different models, but they all come from the same place. Two from the rockers and one from the crank case. The original breather pipework is made redundant after catch can fitment anyway so doesn't really matter.

the pcv valve side is blocked the tube that was attached to it now goes to the catch can.
so it has the pcv pipe and left and right side crankcase breathers going to the can.
then the outlet on the can vents underneath the car with a crancase breather filter on the end.
i havent returned to sump on my can so have to empty if it ever fills up.
its the same set up as dons above but minus return to sump as i was told it can return moisture back into the oil if the car is not used regularly like mine.

this may be of some help for newage owners(mines an sti so unsure if wrx is the same but i assume so).
the rubber hose on the left is the one that was connected to the metal bar that runs across the top mount intercooler. this is the left side crankcase breather and goes back to the catch can.
the other rubber hose on the right is the one that goes into the pcv valve.
the pcv valve is the part with a cross on it that would be connected the rubber hose on the right, i just pulled the hose off and joined on my catch can pipe and ran it back to the can, then cut a small bit of pipe and connected it to the pcv and put a bolt in the end to blank it off.
here is my catch can.
it has 3 ports on the side, the top and bottom ones are connected as explained above and the middle on is connected to the right side crankcase breather, this will be on the other end of the metal bar.
[IMG][/IMG]
the only other thing you will need to blank off is this piece, this is also connected to the big metal bar that runs across your top mount. you can screw a bolt in the same as i have done on my pcv valve part, (sorry i have no pics of the metal bar but i dont have a top mount anymore).
then on the top port of the catch can which is the breather i ran down the bulkhead to the underside of the car next to the gearbox breather,i have fitted a filter to it but this is not essential im just a tart and had it lying around.
the filter will be underneath the engine cover when i refit it anyway
some people run the can back to the sump like don, but i have chosen not to as you can get moisture in the oil depending on how often you use the car, also some people run the can breather back into the engine, i didnt do this either but the way i have done it may cause mot issues but the breather will be under the engine cover so not visable.

Just to clarify I have gone for return to sump because I was half-filling the catch can after 15mins on track so rather than risk doing laps with 1/2 a litre or more of oil missing from the sump I have opted for fit and forget.
Oh and its what the rcm system does so its good enough for me.
I never collect any oil on the road so you probably don't need return to sump if you only do road miles but in that case I would say you don't really need a catch can at all.
(just my opinion)
