davyboy i agree , my point is why have a club that run by people with intrests
costs to join ( why? )
Far better to have an independent club!!!!
Scoobynet great !
Nice to co-ord though!

no don't want to be chairman, to easy to be poped at ![Big Grin](images/smilies/biggrin.gif)
i agree i sound a bit muddled at times![Big Grin](images/smilies/biggrin.gif)
some good points, I wanted to start a debate!
my point is the the SIDC is run by chaps who may have an intrest
they may well put alot of effort (thanks) in but it does not look
good !
And yes you do get the odd mag. only had 2 so far this year, and no doubt the adverts alone proved enough income to suport it!
so where the £20 quid go? sticker ect maybe!

I proposed the SIDC (sic) committee be reappointed as they stood prior to the AGM last year - so it's my fault ![Roll Eyes (Sarcastic)](images/smilies/rolleyes.gif)
I am an SIDC member, I buy parts from ScoobySport, I go on SIDC track days - and don't have a problem with it!
If you or anyone else has a problem with what you are unhappy with, then nobody is forcing them to be an SIDC member.....or they can propose themselves for the committee instead.
It's always the minority that do all the good work on behalf of the majority.

SIDC is run by a committee, the committee is made up of members who are firstly nominated then seconded and lastly elected by the members themselves.
If you don't like the way a club you belong to is run then the simple answer is to either put yourself forward as a potential nominee or use your vote for the candidate you wish to see on the committee.
I can't think of a fairer system of running a club, the committee are decided by you the members. If you feel aggrieved personally then put your vote to use.
I'm sure Pete and the other members of the committe would welcome a bit of competition, at least it'd give them a rest!
I'm on a committee for a local branch of a national organisation and it takes up a HUGE proportion of my time and we only have a tiny percentage of members compared to the SIDC! God only knows how much time and effort the SIDC committee put in.
With any committee most of the work that goes on to keep the club running smoothly goes on behind the scenes, most of the members (well the ones that can be bothered to turn up for the AGM) only get to see a small part of this.
I don't understand the 'conflict of interest' accusation being put forward here. I am on the committee of our local branch of the Inland Waterways Association and our business is running two marinas on the inland waterways. Being on the IWA committee doesn't have any bearing whatsoever on our business, it neither benefits or hinders us in any way. I am on the committee simply because I am a passionate enthusiast of our inland waterways and I'm sure that you can apply this to Pete and the other members of the SIDC.
We run our committee for the benefit of our members and the users of the waterways community, I'm sure the SIDC do what they do for exactly the same reasons.
At the end of the day the way I see it is as follows; if you don't like it you have three options: 1) Join the SIDC and put yourself forward as a nominee for committee. 2) Don't join. OR 3) start your own club.

I have no problem at all with the way the SIDC is run. I've been a member since I got my first scoob in Jan last year. If I had a problem I wouldn't be rather vaigue with poorly aimed comments(spoll chock pls.) I'd stand up at the AGM and do it properly. Thats the way you run commities.
If your a member than have a vote not make pops from the side lines [img]images/smilies/mad.gif[/img]
I think the SIDC is good value for money. I think True Grip gets better & better ans I'm sure a lot of effort goes into running the whole thing that must sometimes seem like a thankless task.
There you go my 2p's worth![Big Grin](images/smilies/biggrin.gif)

Steve, apologies for the comment on the thread title - not intended to be personal at all.
Mikey is SIDC East Midlans Regional Organiser (unless something changed recently).
Just my 2 pence...
Mikey put a huge amount of effort into the Big One and for almost everyone it was a great day out. The Internet is the perfect medium for organising this sort of thing - easy to update people with information etc.
IMHO, trying to send out postal letters to none Internet users would probably finish Mikey off!
Fair enough, not everyone has a computer at home or 'Net access at work but it seems the majority of libraries and school now offer Internet access. Most towns seem to have Internet cafes as well. Hell, I've seen a few pubs with Internet terminals in them.
