One of the girls on the program shown this week was basically saying that in order to spend time with him in his flash cars, and on the TV, she knew he would want something in return. I think she was the only one to have explained that is how she felt about it.
I'm sure that she was an exception, and that the others were not so willing.
I think it's a crying shame that nothing has been done about it before. However it seems that most of it was covered up because of the large amounts of money he raised for charity, and the shows he did making so much money. He abused people who were vulnerable, not just underage girls, but people who's careers were at risk if they said anything.
He apparently bragged to people about what he would get up to, knowing full well that the people he was telling wouldnt do a thing.
I still don't understand what diffrence it will make coming to light now though. I cant see how any of those women will feel any better for it.

I suspect that most people on here are too young to remember "Savile's Travels" on Radio 1 about 40 years ago. Basic idea was that he went around the country in a campervan interviewing "interesting" people that he met along the way.
I remember a joke from when I was in school which went something like "Jimmy Savile is doing his travels. A 14 year old girl was desparate to have her request read out on the radio. He said to her that "If you want to have your request read out you'll need to come to my caravan and do something for me". The girl goes to his caravan and Jimmy gets his **** out. He says "Do you know what to do with this"? The girl grabs his ****, puts it close to her mouth, and says "This request is for my Mum and Dad, my brother Steve, and my sister Alison. Please play something by Slade".
Strange how a joke doing the rounds in 1972 may have had some truth behind it......

Ha yes! I remember that joke. (The age, the age ).
Except that the version I heard was a 'scenario' based around Tony Blackburn. And instead the girl leans in and says, "I'd just like to dedicate this song to... etc."
But obviousy the same joke.... (but devoid of, the now, JS version's irony aspect, that is).

Think half of the issue here is that it was a different time and this kind of stuff was tolerated to a certain extent, especially considering Savilles power in the industry, I remember back then the "Schoolgirl" thing was considered fair game, if a girl was in possesion of a womans figure then she was considered as such, there wasnt the very polarised view that at 16 anyone was ready to have sex and before that point was pedophilia, think that view has arrived in the nineties really, obviously sex with very young children has always been illegal and caused disgust, it is just that the grey area has shifted and is now viewed as not much better.
I am not excusing Saville and his cronies actions, just trying to put it in some slight context, I think from what has come out he was a predatory pervert, surprised it took so long to emerge really, I do believe it is in at least part true, too many people making allegations for it not to be, a lot of others may be getting hot under the collar at the moment for things they did in the sixties and seventies, probably stuff they arent proud of but are about to be judged for the actions of an old morality against a new morality, one with more clearly defined boundaries that is itself not perfect, though it does protect children more which can only be a good thing.
We all thought Saville was a bit of a strange old nutjob but had fond memories of Saturday Tea Times watching Jim'l Fix it, that kid that got his bedroom all decked out with a computer, the scouts eating their lunch on the roller coaster, sending letters ourselves and now it has been tainted by what he was up to before and after the show.

The real scandal is yet to break, the fact that the institution that is the BBC condoned his actions by turning a blind eye and even covering up his actions while still employing him.
It has been written that it was all common knowledge and the reason why nothing was done was because JS had a lot of power and influence. To me the BBC should take responsibility as they were the reason celebrities like Esther Rantzthen knew and did nothing because they would be finished in television.
