It's not genuine. They mentioned it on HIGNFY last Friday and said it's fake. See it on iPlayervfor yourself.

Plus Savile was on Hislop's team, not Merton's as this text states incorrectly.

I am not going to deconstruct the Catholic religon on this forum

read the link posted in previous contribution

http://www.catholicherald.co.uk/comm...ng-daily-mass/

it is sort of alluded to in that link

Christopher Hitchins puts it better than me

“On the institutionalisation of rape and torture, the maltreatment of children in their care, [the current pope] Joseph Ratzinger said: ‘It is a very serious crisis which demands us in the need for applying to the victims, the most loving pastoral care.’ Well, I’m sorry, they have already had that.”

Hitchens tore into the Vatican for its refusal to hand over Cardinal Bernard Law, the former Archbishop of Boston, to Massachusetts police for questioning about his role in the child abuse scandals. “Here is a man wanted for the promotion, protection, covering up and defence of people whose crimes against children are too revolting to specify,” he fumed. “Yet he is acting as vicar of the American Catholic Church in Rome, personally appointed by the Pope and in 2005, even joining the Conclave, to decide who the next pope should be.”

the Religion is run by the Vatican, and they tolerate child abuse, sorry but that is fact
No one can deny that Hitchens was quite right in his criticism of the protection given to Cardinal Law, especially if he was definitely guilty in his actions in relation to child abuse scandals.

I am sure you will have noticed my own feelings about any form of cover up by the Church in an effort to hide shameful behaviour. As I said, thist is down to people and would never be supported by the Church's teachings.

The religion is administered by the Vatican, and its basic teachings cannot be altered. It would never support the tolerance of child abuse. That would be regarded as a major sin against God and its teachings.

The trouble is of course that man is fallible and can never be relied on to do everything right. The religion sets out a way of living a good honest life but if that is ignored, even by its leaders, then the religion cannot be blamed for that.

Les
that is an interesting observation, and in a way goes to the heart of my problem with Catholic teachings

the concepts of original sin and guilt are central concepts in Catholicism, and imo give religious “cover” (intentionally or not) for the perverted activities of people like Savile.

The weekly confessional where Jimmy was allowed a “get out” by confessing, only to abuse again, presumably followed by another confessional etc etc – ad nauseum

it is perfectly possible to live a "good honest" life without religion, contrary to what the Pope would have you believe

indeed, better to live a good and honest life with no religion than a religious one where you abuse children every week, but just get your morality reset in your weekly confessional

I've just come from JJB Sports .... they are doing a Golden Tracksuit in Jimmy Saviles memory.

The tops are available in L, XL, XXL, and XXXL ..

Unfortunatley, due to a mess up at the factory ..

I was awkwardly stood next to a teenager waiting for a bus in Liverpool when, to break the silence, I said, "can you believe this stuff with Jimmy Saville?"

"Now then, now then, now then," she replied using her best impression.

"Wow ," I laughed, "it was as if I was stood next to him then!"

"Really?" she asked. "So I sounded like him?"

"No, love, I was talking about your hair and the track suit."

Priests in the Parish where Jimmy Saville lived kept asking for a transfer to another area as JS had a monopoly on all the available kids..
