I work in the training sector, specialising in utilities, my organisation had a promotions stand at an employment fair to attract young people into apprenticeships.
Realising there is a skills gap in the power sector we were concentrating on disciplines such as overhead lines and cable jointing with major asset owners and their supply chain. This type of work is in hot demand worldwide paying top dollar.
The place was full of similar organisations across all occupations. Next to us was hairdressing and beauty treatment and I kid you not, it was buzzing with young people of both sexes. We were stood there on an empty stand scratching our heads.
It’s society that is changing as are the aspirations of young people, look at the muppets that young people aspire to today, Katie Price, Cheryl Cole, David Beckham.
The Olympic opening ceremony made me chuckle with the feature on the industrial revolution and Isambard Kingdom Brunel , I’ll bet most young people today have no idea who Brunel was.!!!!!!!!!!!!

The problem with engineering is it's too much like hard work, why bother being an engineer when you can earn £50k sat on your backside in an office.
Facial, manicure and pedicure cost about £60/70, decent haircut in a fancy salon £30 for 10/15 mins work plus shampoo ect, nail painting, fake tan, highlights, extensions cost a bloody fortune, it's all about the look these days.
The world is full poncy prats and pratesses made up to the eyeballs waving their Iphone 5 pretending to be katie price and who ever is boneing her this week.
The young uns don't want to work for a living, they want it all handed to them on a plate.

Are you seriously interested in applying for a job, or are you simply being nosey?
If you pm me your brief CV I will put your name forward .... they will get into contact with you and request your application - we are really desperate, so, if you are a UK resident and have been for at least 10 years .... you are in with a very good chance.
I must add that we do expect the very best in the industry, the work is the very best you could imagine. We are in the South by the way, but will pay generous re-location if you are what we want.

This could get a bit awkward, couldn't it, Pete?
Best you put in as many caveats as possible so you can reject him at the PM stage, eh?
Just give it up.

Telboy - quit being an 4rse, he may truly want a job ...... let it run, you owe it to him and I to be respectful - if he is genuine he could land himself the career of a lifetime.

Not for me, structural engineering is my field.
I was just interested as my wife is a biomedical scientist, i was simply curious to find out which companies offer such amazing benefits.
Have you said anywhere what industry you work in?

They would then contact you and invite you to apply.
It's then out of my hands and the process would begin - the time from offer to start date could be 6 months ....... a lot fall at this stage, either the time is just too long - or, there are hidden things in your closet.
It's not in the Medical Industry, but you would need Medical help if you crossed our products path in anger.

As said, I was asking out of interest, besides not much point in chasing a job when I don't even know what industry you work in.....
I cannot state exactly who I work for or what I do ..... I would have more than willingly passed your name, or that of your wife, to my HR Department if you were serious.
They would then contact you and invite you to apply.

I have a nightmare finding good guys now.
I'm not saying all but a big chunk of this generation don't want to get stuck in to anything.
Phones, computer games and not giving a fukc are more important.

I work the other side of the fence in recruitment. I recruit finance staff. The thing we have come up against as an industry is unemployed people worried about taking a full time job because of benefits. They are fearful of going into temp work or full time as if the role ends or they don't make it through probation they won't get benefits for about 6 weeks out the back as well as the economy and their situation being as such they not have the savings to last that 6 weeks.
