Hate to throw the colour thing back in again, BUT![Big Grin](images/smilies/biggrin.gif)
Whenever a non white person does well and is not an "uncle tom" yes sir massa type, has an opinion and not affraid to express it, rightly or wrongly, is a show man or exudes confidence they are always to a man reffered to as being arrogant or my personal favourite "having a chip on their shoulder"
It's a century old stereo type, and at the end of the day a lot of the interest in him IS because he is black.
Not saying anyone in this thread is saying the things they are because of his colour, your all entitled to your opinions, but non of us know who the hamilltons are and what they had to deal with to get where they are,but i'm sure i required a shed load of dedication and bloody hard work, so excuse them if they get a bit sick of the crap spouted about them now they are in a position to say b@llocks to the world.
Lewis has been a prat on a couple of occaisions but he is still a young lad and i recon over all he's not doing too badly.

The Twitter thing explained as I understand it:
Tom Cary (I think it was) tweeted that Jenson was no longer following Lewis on Twitter.
Andrew Benson (BBC's chief F1 journalist - well that's what they call him) gleefully retweets it.
Hamilton sees this and is a bit miffed as to why Jenson would do this and says so (stupid thing to do I admit).
Then he is again gleefully informed by the media that Jenson was never following him in the first place.
Hamilton retracts his comments!
Now they can write another nice piece on what a w4nker he is and it would seem that most people lap it up and agree!
How to create a story out of nothing! Got to love the media!

The story about Jenson unfollowing Hamilton was going round for atleast a week before Hamilton commented. Where the hell was he hiding when this was going on.
I read the whole Jenson has unfollowed Hamilton, followed by oh, he never followed him in the first place easily a week ago.

Jeezus. The daggers really are out. This argument and attack on Lewis is heavily flawed without having to bring colour into it.
Someone made a point about what they had to go through to get to where they are. True, working in the financial industry I can only imagine it was sheer hard work and sacrifice. Lewis is not the first person to come from a not so privileged background - I believe Alonso also had to work hard...as did many other drivers.
Again, as commented by f1_fan - someone else started the drama, which was retweeted.
If we take a step back and look at the bigger picture, Lewis believed they were really team mates (even if only at work) and my using the words (paraphrased - mutual respect or 'respect for eachother') suggests that Lewis DID respect Jenson, or at least offered him the courtesy of enhancing the public image by following him. It just so happens that the same words 'respect', 'diss' and 'disrespect' happen to be associated to street/urban and dare I say gang culture. Oh wait, he is from a council estate and listens to rap!
Jenson does not HAVE to follow Lewis, but at a time when Lewis is leaving, he hears of this 'unfollow' from twitter and all of a sudden Jenson following Perez shows that Jenson cared less about Lewis. Also, if you read some interviews you will find JB never liked Lewis.
Let us also not forget that Lewis promptly apologised when he realised his mistake. Easily done - but again, the same media that started it have gone out to town on the issue.
I am a Lewis fan, and I am really disappointed in some of his behavior last year and to an extent this year. It is hard to defend this gaffe as he could have dealt with it behind closed doors - but at least he is not robotic.
One day, people will see JB and Whitmarsh for who they really are. Pitlane Politicians. People are quick to forget JB in his early days.
It's awful some of the comments I have seen online eg. the size of his watch (sponsored - all the drivers wear them); his beard (Webber and even JB sometimes have stubbles), his friends (so he happens to be in a position where he can get close to people he admires).
I really hope he thinks before he opens his mouth in the future as it is killing his credibility...and it could eventually be the end of him. Again the daggers will be out.

It's odd as you start off defending him and then agree how much of a tit he is making himself look by the end. Surely you can understand the vast number of negative comments on here then?

His twitter outburst is pathetic - his mind focused on who is 'following' him on twitter when he should be more concerned about winning races and beating his teammate on the track. He is in the wrong place mentally, focusing on his brand/image instead of racing.
He is often seen surrounding himself with 'celebrities' from the music world, hip-hop, his management is an entertainment management company specialising in branding rather than sport (I wouldn't be surprised if it is them that is making sure Lewis 'the brand' is on twitter all the time). I don't judge him for falling out of nightclubs or having a celebrity girlfriend, that's not unusual in F1 circles, IF you can back it up on the track.
The move to Mercedes to me has all the hallmarks of someone who thought (along with his management co) he could bully the team into more money, which backfired and now he's destined to be at an inferior team, at least for the next two seasons. At least he is on more money, well done Lewis eh?! At least he'll be number one driver, which was cast into doubt when JB arrived as he has been much more reliable and less erratic. Perhaps that pee'd him off too.

Really? as every time I see Jenson Button on the gogglebox where someone's putting a Sulky-Cry-Baby Hamilton type question to him he has a look like "Lewis, what a loser" written across his face in a wry smile type way!

I'd be very surprised if JB has any real feeling towards LH at all.
If anything I think JB is just happy that he hasn't made a fool of himself being LH's team mate. JB would never have won the WDC without the Brawn car being questionable on the rules. Him going to McLaren it was expected that JB would easily end up the No2. What happened was LH began to loose focus as his persona began to overtake reality and JB has just kept his nose clean and improved his driving from a time when it was looking like he'd be off to GT racing or something.
I doubt he gives much of a monkeys one way or another. I would be surprised if JB actually actively dislikes LH.

Some of the comments on here do make me chuckle. He made a slight gaff on twitter. Whoopee fecking doo. In these days of the media machine you are damned if you do and damned if you don’t. You shutup and tow the team line and you are a PR robot. You speak how you see it in the heat of the moment and you’re an idiot who should know better.
Lewis is spoilt? Spoilt by whom – his family didn’t have much during his early career. Parents split when he was young. Step brother with CP. The only one left who could have spoilt him is McLaren by picking him up at such an early age.
Jenson I like mostly because he is a Brit but he is almost too nice and that shows in his driving which is so utterly inconsistent. Whoever said he improves like a fine wine – remind me not to be any vintage 2012 as this year is his worst since season his title year with Brawn.
As for backfiring with McLaren negotiations, wasn’t it Whitmarsh who publically stated he was trying to pay him less?

We could prbably really end this thread twith this very insightful observation from MrMadCap.
Black, white, talented, not talented, knives out, knives in, hard work, lazy f**cker, none of it matters.
The crux of the matter is that throwing a strop over a twitter text before you've even done someone the courtesy of checking to see if you've got your facts right is immature. Period.
Men don't argue over twitter, they sort there differences out over a pint, or if you're an F1 driver play top trumps using the supermodels you've shagged as subject matter!

Right, I'm going to have one more go at this:
f1 Fan - the webteam is now telling you: stay off this thread; you've antagonised the posters on here now and the courteous thing to do is leave it to those who want to discuss the topic at hand i.e. Hamilton: you are on thin ice with us, please don't force our hand! I've removed any insults directed at you, so you now have nothing to respond or reply to!
The rest of you, stay on topic - it's not an inquisition! it takes two to tango and you're not helping!
