Dog owners will understand......

My full sympathies David, it is awful to lose a pet. I know just how you are feeling, we lost our "Fearless Freddie" the other day when he had a heart attack. We had him for a good many years and he was such a laid back and faithful cat. I have been lucky enough never yet to have had a pet put down, I don't know how I could ever do that. I just hope it never comes to that. It is still pretty awful to have your pet die in your arms.
We have still got our young cat "'Orrible Oscar" who we found as a deserted kitten about 3 weeks old under our hedge. We think he has a touch of "feral" about him but he is well and truly part of the family. He misses Freddie too!
I think you should get another pet, it will go a long way to making you feel better about it all.
