hi guys i have the same problem thats started with my 99 uk spec, 2000 turbo hatch, i had fitted a k&n induction kit, (correct kit for my car). anyway i had it on for few hundred miles and the ecu i guess kind of learnt it and idled fine, but last week my batt died and i purchased a nice new bosch s5. now when i first start her up shes fine but soon as it gets up to temp if i sit at lights etc.. it idles right down and sounds like its running really sh**e and if i let it go it will stall, sometimes its ok but 99% of the time it will do this, its fine with normal driving but when i stop and turbo timer kicks in it will now shut off before the timer has done its thing i have to keep my foot on the throttle to keep it running, any light shed on this would be great. also its serviced every 6000 or less new plugs etc last time.

So do you know how old the maf is??? If not then change for piece of mind! My other advice would be to sell the timer and make some money instead of it wasting your fuel

You could just unplug it and see if the engine note changes. If it is failing though as opposed to failed then the ecu will be compensating to an extent! If you reset the ecu then the car may run like a bag of crap as it won't be compensating any longer - all on the assumption that your maf is questionable! I'd still change it regardless !

Think diagnostics won't show a failing maf as opposed to a buggered one. When I swapped mine it didn't cure my idle issues completely but greatly improved everything else. Turned out the inlet hose to the turbo hadn't been tightened by the garage that replaced my downpipe. My maf had been nearly two years old. I run the stock airbox. In future I'll be changing my maf every year. I hadn't noticed the very gradual degradation of mine.

For ecu reset check out scoobypedia. There's two ways. Both dead easy! I drove mine like a nun till mine was changed. Kept off boost.

Where's this hose mate ? I'm having the same issue and would like to try rule this out before I fork out on a new maf as the car drives perfectly other than on idle after coming to a halt.

I got to the root of the problem having forked out for a new lambda sensor then the maf. My maf had prob been on the road out for a while. Fluctuating idle can happen for a variety of reasons. I'd checked on various forums with my symptoms an the lambda sensor, maf, or idle control valve seemed to be the most common suggestions so those are the routes I went down. When I'd replaced the lambda an maf and the problem was still there I phoned David at api an he suggested I check for leaks in pipework incase of any unmetered air getting in. It was then I remembered my downpipe getting replaced. The garage said they had taken off the turbo during fitting. Straight away I checked the jubilee clip securing the air intake to the turbo an this was loose.tightened it up an problem solved
