My cane corso is 5 months old and i haven't started training him yet, i'm waiting until he is 6 months old, but he already sits goes to bed and will leave it when told and walks at heel on of off the lead.

Positive re enforcement is the key over and over and over again, he now also barks and growls at the bloke that sold me this house when he comes noseing around, just saying good boy a few times saw to that.

edit to add he takes a pee on command too, which does have it's uses.

The dog has no interest in food or people when out, refuses any treats, meat, whatever ...

I have never used treats/sweets/liver etc. (that's just plain lazy!).

I could call my GSD's to me and drop them at a distance by voice command alone ... this obedience is vital to protect the dog and yourself.

My dogs never walked on a lead - they were under complete and full voice control and you don't get that from being a namby pamby ....... snap the lead back twice and that's all you will need to do.

good one

It is all about rewarding the correct behaviour, it sounds like the dog is learning that pulling gets it to go where it wants to go and finds that is rewarding therefore if the dog is pulling never continue in that direction stop wait until the dog is back beside you then continue forward the dog will learn that being beside you is the way it goes to the park.

the dog that puls on the lead but walks to heel off the lead has learnt to do that and by accident it has been taught to pull so train it to do something else instead my be use a new command so as if teaching from scratch.

a dog that doesnt want food dont feed the meal proceeding the training and use something like spicy sausage or chicken as the reward.

Clicker training is really effective as a training tool once you have the idea.

also bear in mind if you pull on the collar to hard you will damage the dogs neck and possibly windpipe in later life the dog will suffer.

As others have said, positive reinforcement. Reward with treats for walking well. It may mean you reward after just a few metres and walks take ages, but it will be worth it later on.

We were told, 5 minutes walk per month of the dogs age. To allow the dog to grow, without too much exertion. Makes sense really, you wouldn't send a 5 year old into the free weights section of a gym

As with any dog training, consistency is the key.

Pulling was harder for us to control, because it's a desired trait being a sled dog. We want pulling at times and not at other times. So at nearly 2 we're still enforcing it and letting the dog know, we're walking now, no pulling.....or you're working now, pull like a train.

If you have a command for "slowing down". As we do, remember to say it slowly. Ours is "easy". So we say "eeeeezzzzzz". If you just shout "easy!" it doesn't really help the dog to think slowly does it. That's what we were taught and seems to work.

Good luck!

Couple of punches and they will learn..... JOKE

Jack loves it when I show him a fist, he knows it's play time and we roll around for hours with him holding yet never tight onto my hand...
We box and bite each other, again no pain.
Lucy then feels like she wants some and jumps in. But then rather then play she slags up and offers herself to me and jack. Jack normally goes for it and I'm left with a mouth for of dog hair.
Gotta love dogs
