No impreza ECU is un-mappable, despite what many people think/read.
Without adding other hardware i presume you mean as there are some that are not mappable from standard which is why the ESL and other daughter boards were brought in, I think they are for pre 99 cars and cost around £550 all in mapped, That has always been my understanding of it anyway, Not that i have ever owned a classic so what do i know

Exactly, ESL can be used on cars with "un-mappable" ECU's. No impreza needs a new ECU to allow it to be mapped but some do need their ECU's modifying with the likes of a daughter board. Very simple to do and much more cost effective than the likes of simtek/Motec/syvecs etc etc. The Apexi can be had and mapped for similar money but doesn't have the features of ESL etc.
Was just pointing out that you don't have to opt for a stand alone ecu in any impreza like the chap I was quoting thought.
