Exactly, ESL can be used on cars with "un-mappable" ECU's. No impreza needs a new ECU to allow it to be mapped but some do need their ECU's modifying with the likes of a daughter board. Very simple to do and much more cost effective than the likes of simtek/Motec/syvecs etc etc. The Apexi can be had and mapped for similar money but doesn't have the features of ESL etc.
Was just pointing out that you don't have to opt for a stand alone ecu in any impreza like the chap I was quoting thought.

What this mapping business about, I just use a tom tom to get about no need for old school paper maps

I think you guys are using the wrong map!

Garmin is the best and fastest.
