I never said I would have to pay more tax (I might even have to play less) that's not the point, I just wanted to call out all the Alex Salmond fans, he seems to have done a great job of disguising his socialist tendencies. Is it not possible to understand that I might not be taking a selfish perspective on this?
My point on Cuba was, again just calling out the anti-American brigade, they want to stick 2 fingers up at America...that sound like a really great start point for foreign policy. It is just idiotic, childish and dooms them to failure.
Cuba does have a lower infant mortality rate, which in itself is a hell of an achievement, unfortunately it just results in even more people living in poverty, as ultimately that's the direction that socialism always takes a society.

I can’t believe the Scots (historically better politically educated than the rest of the UK) are under any illusions regarding Alex Salmond.

Which has excellent Public services, Universal Health system, subsidised Further education, real social care and is way, way above Britian on GDP per capita. and pretty much from 2000-2011 at the top of the human development index ranking
To say that socialism ialways takes a society to povety is demonstrably not true.

Cuba is a communist state. Not a socialist one. If you are going to compare Scotland to anywhere, do it to a comparable northern European socialist society. Like Norway.

Shouldn't foreign policy be dictated by whatever is in the state's best interest as opposed to appeasing another country? Granted cooperation and good relations are a desirable policy to pursue but not at the expense of your own electorate's interests and wishes. Ultimately the Scot's will be masters of their own destiny and will sink or swim on the basis of their minister's policies.

The break-up of a three hundred year union and the end of Great Britain at the behest of a few hundred thousand republican socialists will not be exciting, it will be an absolutely crying shame.

Couldn't give a shiny **** about 300 years of union to be honest - the last 20 years have seen the UK Government appearing to not give a toss about Scotland (at best) and treating it with contempt (at worst).

I just think it's sad that credulous, but decent Scotsmen like Nizmo and our man above are seduced by the nationalist rhetoric; they've no idea what real socialism is or where its loyalties and roots lie. Salmond is a gradualist and by the time he and his comrades climb out of their Trojan horse, the damage will have been done. Salmond will not care, of course, he will have realised both his magnum opus and the dreams of the '79 Group.

This refers to that research.
I haven't watched the programme that is linked to but the implication of the article is that Scotland has voted for this over the years. I suppose that the question is now whether or not Scotland can afford this level of state provision if the independence vote says "yes".

It's a constitutional monarchy, the same as the UK, but with left of centre governance for the past few decades. That is absolutely not what Salmond wants. Do you wish to see the end of the United Kingdom, Pete?

I have no desire to see the end of the United Kingdom. I would rather Scotland remain part of it (and I think they will). However, I can completely understand their desire to become a nation in their own right and determine their own future, rather than have it determined for them by a Government they didn't vote for.

It ties in exactly with what Salmond wants.

But here is the thing salmond made sure us scots have free prescriptions , university's and free care for the elderly to name a few all the while politicians
South of the border the politicians were claiming or should I say stealing
From the people with bogus expense claims all the time the poor people of
This country are struggling to survive !
I find it funny people trying to Witch hunt Scottish politicians
When the real corruption sits with the slime we call the British government.

Dont forget he's putting up the price of alcohol to try and tackle the boozing problems (a move opposed by both other opposition parties)
Since the SNP came to power Scotland is a better place to live in.
The same can't be said for Cameron or Blair's watches !
I'm still undecided how to vote on the Independence issue - 10 years ago I'd have been a definite no.

Where does Salmond stand on the whole EU immigration thing then? does he have any visions of building Hadrians wall another 100ft higher by any chance?
That would score highly with me TBH.

This thread has convinced me
Being a natural conservative – I would prefer the union to remain intact, however reading the rubbish posted by the pro unionists, with so little in the way of constructive comments, just pathetic negativity – jtaylor in particular, lecturing the Scot’s on “Scottishness”, a man who on a previous threads tried to lecture posters from Northern Ireland on the horrors of sectarianism and religious division and all from his sofa in Wales
I salute the ambition and confidence of the Scots if they vote for independence – aspiration and conviction win over whinging negative cvnts every time

We, as in Great Britain, have one the most open and corruption free governments in the World. The expenses 'scandal' will not even register as a footnote in the history books. You're being bought and sold to, Nizmo, and it's for no other purpose than to satisfy Salmond's sinister ambitions. I just hope you're not being what the communists used to call Полезный идиот.
Why has none of the expenses thiefs been brought to justice ?
Instead they got a slap on the wrist while if it was a everyday worker it would of been criminal charges
