Welcome to the light side.
After years of viruses, freezing, refusing to do even the simplest of tasks without my MCSE qualified mate coming round almost every time i turned my windows pc on,
i'm now free of all that, i now know how a junky that gets clean feels.
Admittedly maybe some of it was my fault, due to my lack of knowledge, but i don't think you should need a degree in computer science to browse,
print invoices and do basic book keeping.
Everything is so easy with my macbook air and in the almost 2yrs iv'e had it, it's not put a foot wrong and is as fast as it was the day i bought it,
and when i come to upgrade it will be worth something, not off to the tip to put it in a skip.
I know the Apple haters/ computer savvy don't like mac's for various technical /corporate reasons,
but for joe average like me that has no interest in how or why computers do what they do and just want it to work when i turn it on,
Mac's are a revalation, it just does what it says on the tin and keeps doing it day in day out with no fuss or bother.

The truth is, Windows 7 is just as reliable as OSX and Mac hardware is exactly the same as Windows hardware these days. If you look at the reliability tables Mac's score somewhere mid-table vs windows manufacturers.
The quality thing is a complete myth.
Still I love the design, the way OSX works and the overall experience.

I've never owned an apple computer, only iPad and iPhones. Do the apple computers and laptops remain as bug free as the iPads and phones? My laptop just seems slower and more snarled up every time I turn it on! Every pc I've had has slowed up in time and needed constant maintenance to keep keep it plodding along.
Be nice to think the apple computers behave like the iPad where after a couple of years they are as slick as the first day you get them out the box.

Cheers guys, enjoying it a lot so far- it's a real pleasure to work with.
However one thing which I knew was probably going to be a problem and not sure if I can fix it. For iTunes on my PC, I would download recent songs and then group them together by renaming all their albums names so that they are the same, for example "Downloaded songs 09.10.12" as the album name...
I've just imported all my songs into itunes, and it has renamed all of these songs with their original album titles, making them ungrouped and as individual songs.
Is there anyone that knows what I'm on about and if there's a way around this? Cheers

I deleted all the songs, unticked that box, and imported them all again and it's still given the songs their original album names.

OK Ive set my @hotmail.co.uk mail account to redirect all messages to my @icloud.com account, which syncs it perfectly using the apple mail program and also onto my iphone
I did some research, and hotmail struggles to sync with your phone through the apple mail program because of 'POP'? Anyway, very happy so far

I've got to say i'm not a big fan of MACS although a lot of people do use these things.
The thing i do not like is you are unable to upgrade your hardware (easily)
They've recently said that they will start soldering the Memory to the board so you are unable to upgrade.
For what it is, the price you pay for the name is much more expensive than purchasing a pc of the same specification with a different operating system.
I may be MCITP qualified but I do keep an open mind to all OS's alike, linux, Mac or windows.
If you have issues with windows straight away, you're either on vista, bought a dodgey copy, have a virus or just hasn't been installed properly.
Don't get me wrong though I do like the Macs, I used one for a couple of years at college whilst I was learning music, and for the editing an processing power it's good. It's just the cost and the arguments it starts lol

As far as I'm aware the only Apple product with soldered ram is the macbook air and this isn't a recent change, its always been like that. My Macbook Pro has 16gb of ram I put in it for instance.
As it goes small form factor Windows machines also do the same. I really like the Dell XPS 13 for instance, another machine with soldered in ram and so are many other Windows ultrabooks.
As for any other upgrade, its as simple as any other Windows PC, I've no idea why you think different???

It's not just the OS but the ecosystem thats different and also manufacturing on a completely different level to most windows based machines. Ever worked off a Macbook Pro? Ever seen the retina display? There is nothing in the Windows world that can compare. You simply can't manufacture that technology on a average Windows price tag and trying to factor in component cost alone is to completely miss the point.
As for issues with Windows, whilst I'm more comfortable dealing with Windows the chances of a problem with a Windows machine are very high compared to OSX which doesn't suffer the same ills and is far more reliable.

I'm very much enjoying using it, smooth and slick still as it should be. Only a few very tiny niggles so far but that's simply because I'm not fully used to it still. Another niggle I had was trying to read an .AVI file which someone sent me. I then had to download some converter for it and it was a bit of a pain because it still didn't seem to want to open it (took me ages to get it sorted in the end).
Word processing in Pages on the retina is very nice and crystal clear, much better than Word for my basic needs anyway. Also, the in-built basic editing stuff in iphoto is pretty good as well.

I hope it last longer than the Apple products I have. Mac book 14 months old, does its own thing now along with spinning, crashing, corrupting iphoto etc.
iPhone 4S 13 months old wont phone out 1/2 the time, may occasionally connect to the internet, screen flickers, although that seems to have stopped now.
All just out of the pathetic 1 year warranty...how convenient of Apple.

The stance Apple take on the EU 2 year warranty is that it only applies to faults that were present before delivery pod the item. The 1 year warranty covers faults after delivery. To me that is as good as saying they have no intention of honouring the 2 years warranty as who is going to claim a warranty on a phone they have had sitting around being faulty for a year?
