Forgot to update, but the Codecs above won't allow Blu Ray playback in Windows 8 unless I've done something wrong.
I guess it's now a matter of finding a dedicated player to do the job.

I'll be honest with you, I am an IT Technician, so learning new operating systems is a must to keep up to date.
I have been using 2000/ME/XP/Vista/Win7 & windows 8.
And i've got to say from a performance view that the windows 8 is by far superior.
Windows 7 is a great operating system. XP was great for configuring and use in a business network as well.
I've got to say though the windows 8 OS is deffo a Tablet OS. It's not that practical for a PC.
Performance wise, it's very smooth indeed. I'm currently running:
Intel Core2 Quad CPU Q8200 2.33GHz with 4Gb RAM, and running ATI Radeon HD 4800 and Nvidia Geforce 7300 GT with four screens running off it.
I've had a couple of compatibility issues and a lot of fuming at the start, but as we get it for free.... Why not

P.s. If you are not a fan of the "metro" style start area.
You can change it using a program Called "Classic Shell"
Do bear in mind while installing that you carefully read what extras it is putting on, and make sure you only select the start menu (unless any other options are wanted).

I ended up opting for a legit download of pro £24.95 and paid for it via paypal. The download was only a few minutes via my 100 mb Virgin Media Broadband. It was about 30 mins to fully install then a futher 20mins to install Media Center. It also sorted all my media files pictues etc and placed them on the metro desktop.
Up to now pretty impressed laptop feels a tad slicker. On the metro start screen it dumped a tile called desktop, when you click on that its my old Windows 7 desktop complete with all my shortcuts handy feature as they all work just like they did before, if you still like the feel of Windows 7. Its clever stuff as the scoobynet shortcut works on the old IE platform as opposed to the new inverted style IE on 8
I have a Windows 7.5 Nokia smart phone so the apps look and feel similar. It also has a store tile where you can get all the apps you need. I still feel it has been designed for tablet touch screen devices in mind but still works well on my laptop.

I assume once you get to the Desktop it begins to act like W7 and you can access Explorer etc through shortcuts placed there.
I'm interested whether they've fixed the massive explorer bug and ball ache in W7 where you select a folder in the left hand folder pane and it immediately jumps down to the bottom of the screen so you can't see the contents of the selected folder. Equally, when you select a favourite location you have to then go and find it to carry on navigating folders.
Stupidly, I have always used the folder pane to navigate folders and the right hand pane for accessing files.

Yes the desktop once clicked looks the way it was only thing missing is the start button on the bottom corner. All my old shorts work as before in the old ie platform as in IE9 think thats what my W7 OS was running.
I never use folder pane so not sure if the bug is gone. But be warned the new W8 IE has no tab function you have no tool bar, you get a address bar on the bottom of the screen that disapears the minute you start to scroll down. You need to put the curser to top of page an d right click the mouse and load of web panes appear. Strange but I am getting used to it. The only thing that annoys me is that on here and someone posts a link, when you click on it it is now the main web page, you have to put the curser up and right click to bring back the origonal web page but your page is where it was and you can use the back and forward arrows at the edges of the page.
