I asked the same questions a while back TT, and was told it didn't really do anything, just trawling back through everything to find the threads now.

I think the gist of what was said was that the starter motor speed of turning the engine generated nearly nothing in relation to oil pressure.

Will find it in a min, I hope.........

it may or may not do anything but its simple do for piece of mind.

i never used to do it on my old impreza until i noticed the pressure gauge was still on 0 for a second or so after starting

always do it on new one.

Oh dear! the OP came on here complaining of a misfire and it's ended up with the old oil change arguement!

no arguement i think we all agreed, anyway he never did tell us what the problem was.

If I may add another chestnut to this fire -
It is not just the oil filter and sump drainer pipe that need to be charged after an oil change.
I notice that when I remove the (full) oil filter, there is a substantial amount of oil that drains from this source as well. When screwing in the primed oil filter, there must be a void (of air) that is at least as large as the amount of oil that has drained out when the filter was removed.

All he mentioned was something about coilpack! Could be lies but I've learnt not to go back for anything more than a mot
