99.6 isn't 100 or over. They take it far far more seriously when you exceed 100mph whether its a gun, van or unmarked car you were caught by.

Some guys on here are unreal. Have to laugh at all the comments from people saying you deserve to loose your licence and they never do it ect, blah..blah...

Ok here was caught speeding, he knows he's in the wrong and will be punished in court.

Will be very shocked if one single person on here has never drove over a speed limit driving, whether that be tiredness, anger or just lack of awareness on the road. I know I have, although I class myself a very mature/sensible driver it's so easily done.

Luckily I've never been stopped/caught in 10years of driving, hope I never loose my licence for sure!

+1 All camera cars and hand held guns must be checked for calibration and operation before use and signed out, if they cannot produce a certificate for the day, you could try and dispute the calibration of the device.
Worked for me few years back and only got points and fine.

In my case the road limit was 50 and I was doing 94, there was some factors as the road was just opened and no speed limit signs which are a requirement when changing from motorway to A road.
Used the above and the fact that I challenged the police on the spot for the certificate which they could not produce and that they have to carry with any calibrated speed check device, this was produced in court and I disputed this was created after the event.
I was ready for a ban but with dispute of several items and that I need my car for work ended up with 6 points and £450 fine.

Calibration certificate ain't worth the paper it's written on, like I say I have been there, how can they get a correct calibration on anything hand held? The slightest movement from the officer can impact on the reading being received, like I say how come the operator in a court room ( not sure where ) has shown that he can get a wall to move at that speed when we know its impossible ) they only have to get the angle wrong or the laser to hit the side of the car rather than the front which causes "slip" on the camera speed showing a car is doing faster than it actually was, in my case it was a petty 34 mph in a 30, regardless of the speed I still won and shows there are exceptions

Nor did i state i was driving sensibly. Nor did i state 'i dont speed or drive sensibly' ' i merely stated that doing 100mph; quite rightly stated by the law is a straight court conviction leading to possible loss of licence. I dont claim to not speed etc... If the need calls for it, i will overtake at 80-90 max on a motorway (traffic permitting). In my opinion 100mph is not needed on public roads whether there is no traffic or not.

Seems funny to me that yourself and others on here that i cba to qoute are quick to defend someone who was found guilty of driving at 100mph as opposed to me. Who altgough ive only been driving for 7 years, drives approx 45k miles a year in the works van +the average 5-6 in the car and im yet to receive a single speeding conviction.

Upon my daily driving, the amount of accidents with/without fatalities i witness that are caused by 'speeding' lead me to return to my original stated opinion...

'speeding' at or in excess of 100mph deserves a straight ban. Imo if you buy a high performance car to drive like a nutcase make sure you allow funds for track days. posting a thread on a public forum that you were 'caught' doing 100mph doesnt earn sympathy from me im afraid.

Well I was caught doing 101.36 on a dual carriageway and got 3 points fixed penalty

I feel your pain, research accidents on a road like that , take in statistics a d do a lot of grovelling, the more info you have on the subject the better you may get off. Good luck.

'Technically' he hasn't been found guilty, an officer has 'reported' him for the offence, but the magistrate hasn't given a verdict yet

On top of the advice already given;
Be humble, also explain that your car is a high performance vehicle, hence upgraded tyres, suspension/handling & most importantly brakes. Now I know this is no excuse but anything regarding safety & what you vehicle is made for can only help!

WOW scoobynet/this country is full of some self righteous people, it gets wearisome when we all go around policing/judging each others actions the whole time (I personally blame the media for this social disease). OP hasn't caused any long term damage and im sure will think twice about hitting 100mph on the motorway again. the courts im sure will be fair with you mate.

Don't stress to much they will more than Likely give you a slap on the wrist and send you on your way they tend to make examples out of you get drivers tho I.e 18-25 , I get tugged and basically a full mot at the side of the road just because I'm 18 regardless of what I'm doing or where I am

Firstly ignore all the automatic ban nonsense people on here are saying as it's not true. I really wish people wouldn't write things that are just not verifiable. There is no law that says over 100 will get you a ban no matter what.

Secondly get a good solicitor, attend court well in time, dress smartly, be very polite and be preapred to grovel. Get a letter from your employer if you can saying you ned to drive for work or even better have them turn up to vouch for you. Research some stats that have made you realise the error of your ways and even make enquiries about an advanced driving course. You may get treated leniently if you can convince them you realise you've been an idiot and will not be so again...... and are taking steps to ensure that.

OK so how have you decided that 100mph is the cut off point and anything below that deserves less than a ban? Just wondering what scientific process you have applied to decide 100mph is somehow that much worse than 99mph?

Considering the improvements to vehicle safety since the speed limits were set.....I don't think 100 mph on a duel/motorway is worthy of a disqualification! Let alone points!

There's been discussions of increasing the motorway speed limit to 80mph for a while now!

More focus should be placed on setting limits for young drivers, both on the power & speeds of vehicle they can drive & how many passengers they're allowed in a vehicle.
That said, senior citizens should have frequent driving tests & proper medical assessments, that actually assess their ability to drive!

My lad got a 56 day ban for 95 on a dual carrigeway, however it was limited to 50 where he was stopped. Interestingly it seems to have made no difference to his insurance premium since.

As I said in an above post I got caught doing 101.36 on a dual carriageway by a cop with a speed gun.

He said he had two choices, take me to court for dangerous driving but as it was dry and very quiet on the road he would have difficulty proving it, or a fixed penalty which he did.

It is simply not true that over 100 equals a ban.

BTW I don't condone speeding and as a rule I am very well behaved, this was just a one of those moments....

i will never double the speed limit or do over 100 on the motorways
as loosing my licence would realy *uck me up mainly for work as im
a bricklayer so need transport.
we could not live on benefits and have the cars we have,
49 and still have a clean licence.

Surely a gun cannot calculate speed if they were following .... only by measuring the closing distance and time?

Are you saying that a Policeman with a hand held radioed ahead to a BMW who then stopped you?

See the plus side.. I've just got my 3points and £60 for 94 in a 70. I soiled myself and am more conscious of my speed etc but I am so happy I'm a club member now.

And my insurance quotes haven't changed.

Whatever car we buy we have a duty to obey the law - it isn't flexible, you don't speed or if you do and are caught you will pay a penalty.
