In 2 years of living in Sydney and backing onto the bush I saw no Snakes, a handful of Huntsman's and only 2 nasty spiders, a red back and a n other who's name I've forgotten LOL they both died in a frenzied attack I got used to the Huntsman but not when they came inside the house, those f*ckers are so big they try and jump you

8 of the 10 deadliest spiders IIRC

Redbacks, while potentially deadly, tend to be reasonably benign insofar as they make a web and generally stay in it. I have a couple in the house now. If they're out of the way, I'll leave them be.
Funnel Webs, OTOH, are aggressive, especially the males when they're looking for a little action ;-)
Then there's white tails. Jury's out on whether they cause necrosis or not. Matters not, these ******* are nomadic and, when found, are nuked from orbit.
In 8 years over here I have seen only one snake in the wild that could kill.
But then there's the sharks, jelly fish, blue ringed octopus, cone shells...

@FM: living in Sydney, the other nasty 8 legged bastid probably would've been the Funnel Web.

I know what you mean about the redbacks, I had one that would appear every now and then from one of the garden tables we had, sparyed it once with Mortein, never saw it again until we moved back here and out he came when we were unpacking the garden furniture, thankfuly dead.
I often wondered if we'd introduced any new species to the UK easily done I would imagine if they can find food in the sea container to sustain them.
I'm sure you or someone else posted up a picture of a white tail on here once before, horrible looking things, at least the red back was nice to look at !!

Living in Oz, the only thing we would be bothered about would be the brown snake. Fortunately haven't seen one yet and the likelihood in suburbia is rare, though not unheard of.
Spiders? Yep, all those mentioned above, but no big deal if you just leave them alone.
Always wondered why the smaller they are, the more potentially friggin' dangerous they are!

Although the wallabies &kangaroos come out to play in the dark in the country roads so would not like to drive fast in a car or especially motorbike at dusk
I was wandering around Sydney and Adelaide at silly o clock and felt safer on the streets then most uk cities
I did not witness the drunken lager lout mentaility that you get in the uk
Basically with the price of alachol in the cities people stay at home and drink

Don't they have bigger taxes?
The boy pays just 8% tax at the moment as he is on some NHS scheme
His girlfriend pays 22%
It's an expensive place to live but the wages are big so Similer to the uk living costs
I gather its quite a dangerous place for average pomm, and then there's the spiders

So it's a good mix
Where the boy works in the hospital lots of the doctors and nurses are foreign so no racism
Doesn't even get the pom jokes thrown at him in humour

There seems to be a greater police presence here and yes, there is definitely less racism than we experienced in uk.

Boy just had another 2 k tax back
The boys applying for permanate residency and I don't blame him
Only thing I didn't like is 50 mph limit on the motor way and expressway
We went on a fantastic cruise with 200 cars mostly Aussie muscle cars and a few scoobys and we went to different locations in a convoy flying at 100km 60 mph when it was safe to do so
If that had been the uk 120mph +++
Strange to see 5/6 ltr cars sounding so great going so slow
